I've been browsing over CBid over the last few days and I am astonished at how many lines Gurkha has. It seems to me as if they've got more lines then Fuente!? I don't know much about the brand. As it was becoming popular (especially with CI) I was exiting the cigar world. Looks like the brand has blown up since then!

So whats the overall consensus on this brand? Flavor/construction/consistency - all good?

No brand is all good but they do have a number of lines that I like. Just don't get too hung up over the "list" prices.

Hey whoa..........speaking poorly of Fuente is like speaking poorly of your mom! But to answer your question IMHO Gurkha makes so much "stuff" that they themselves can't tell you what they make...........it's a joke!
Fuente, on the other hand, has several lines of specific products that are all well explained, understood, and loved by the discriminating cigar smokers everywhere!

When you see a cigar for sale in a gas station, or a drive through beer distributor, you know they are junk..........Gurkha has some great stuff but they also sell gas station cigars and everything in between!

Edited to add.....As far as MSRP just divide Gurkha's MSRP by your zip code and fifty cents.

seems like they "overprice" alot of their lines. You can always find em at a fractional price... I do enjoy most of the ones I have tried though!

Sir, I never meant to say anything negative about Fuente! IMHO they do have a lot of lines and I never expected Gurkha to expand to such a size. Just a simple comparison of size. Nothing implied :)

As far as the prices go, I bid no more then $15 per fiver so I don't think prices are an issue... thus far ;)

Titan... How could you miss the Titan

...and King Kong...don't forget King Kong.

Wasn't there a Black Beauty or something?

You could probably add all of the K. Hansotia lines as well.

Billy

I also missed the Status. So.... add Titan and Status to that... any more?

There's a difference between having a number of lines of cigars, and not having any reasonable branding of those lines. Fuente does make a number of cigars, but the lines are branded pretty well... Gurkha, on the other hand, I long ago gave up on trying to figure out.

I just classified them as a boutique cigar maker that is more interested in marketing shiny new lines than it is in establishing solid brands of cigars.

Kinda reminds me Chevy in the 80s and 90s. Firebird vs. Camaro vs. Trans Am, or Olds 88 vs. Buick Regal. Let's just flood the market with the same car bearing different nameplates...or in this case cigars with different bands. Although, I'm much more thoroughly confused with Ghurka than I am with the auto industry.

The problem with Gurkha, IMHO, is that they conduct a very deceptive marketing campaign. You take Padron, Fuente, Tatuaje, etc. and the higher the price of the cigar the more coveted it is (in general.....everybody's taste differs). With Gurkha, their prices are so screwed up you have no idea of the real value of the cigar.........and they are well aware of this...they're not stupid. This tells me one very simple thing:

They figure if they flood the market with crap, but back it with a huge marketing campaign. they can capture some nice profits from people who don't know any better. kinda like IBM back in the day!

The sad part is they make some good stuff but it is so buried in junk that it takes a seasoned pro like AVB to know shit from Shinola!
