I am evaluating the cost vs hassle of changing all my beads out. The last time I checked it was expensive to buy enough Heartfelt beads do all three coolerdors so I thought about buying pure silica beads and programming them myself like I did 15 years ago.

I looked today to see what the cost would be for Heartfelt beads and it seems they are out of business?

It appears that way. I know for a few years people have complained that the shipping was slow and he was non responsive. I'd assume knock off's and amazon did him in.

i bought from him a few months ago

It does seem his site is down
Same here, I bought a pound (I think) last fall with no issues when I returned to the hobby.

If MX bought a few months ago, maybe it's just sporadic, but I could not place an order recently, too.

I'm guessing these guys sell the same stuff? It's not like it's new tech or anything, and these are widely used in instrument and museum storage as well as for cigars.

How do you "program" silica beads? I've never heard of that. I figured they were manufactured to a specific RH%, but I know next to nothing about them.

I have a couple of their beads my in dry box and I haven't had any issues.

Someone has to point me to the origin of this "lick them" thing. It sounds like it must be hilarious! :D

Search is your friend on that one. I don't think it was an ongoing post, but it comes up a lot ;)

Not an ongoing post, but an ongoing story, I've heard reference to it a dozen times already. I'll do some search fu later.

Edit: May have been this thread. post #7

Licking the beads, goes all the way back to a 10 page discussion from March 2012. I'll let you figure out the search function from here :)

The problem is they aren't the same as his, but your average guy wouldn't know, and I can't blame them for not wanting to spring the extra bucks for what appears to be the same thing. The kind you find now online and are just pure silica beads. Sure they work, but you can't really just spritz them with a spray bottle, or they fracture and turn to dust eventually. You can do that easily with David's beads as much as you want without harm.
