Interesting ECCJ Article: Survey - Women in the Cigar Scene

Interesting article and figures...
I'm all about diversifying the cigar scene, however I've seen a lot of old heads at Lounges almost lose it..
  1. Women are breaking up my man zone, now I have to watch my language, etc.
  2. Act like a kid with their first hard on...
Some of these crusty cats ruin the experience IMO...

I find the article to be very truthful from my personal experiences. I've experienced being frowned upon or given funny looks when going into a cigar shop, however, I've also experienced the other end of the spectrum where men were more eager to help me because I am a woman. I suppose that's true for anything that is dominated by a specific gender though. There used to be a B&M in the area owned by a female who tried to bridge this gap by selling women's fashion accessories alongside the humidors/cigars to make it more comfortable for women and to make it a gender neutral environment. It's a shame that she closed down last year.

I suppose it may also depend what part of the country we are talking about. I suspect the areas with a heavy, more progressive millennial bent may be more receptive. Then again, this same crowd may also be more inclined to be pushing the whole MJ and vapor thing. But that being said, the local cigar lounge isn't exactly a growth industry. It's old businesses, doing things the old way. While I can adapt to the traditional lounge environment, it really isn't my scene either. I wish there was a more modern take on the old cigar bar.
