Initializing Cigar Boxes?

Hey guys. I've just started purchasing full cigar boxes and thought to myself:

"If we initialize the humidor wood, why not initialize the cedar inside cigar boxes?"

Wouldn't cigar box(s) suck up moisture just like the interior cedar in a humidor?

Thanks,
Daniel

I'm not sure what you mean by initialize, but yes, if you receive boxes that have been dried out and are at a lower RH than the rest of your humidor, you will find that it takes a while for the RH to come up to the right level. Similarly if you put a "wet" box into your humidor, it may take a while for the humidity to drop. I find that from some vendors (like JR Cigars) that it's best to leave the boxes out for a few days OR I put them in the driest of my humidors. (I have a few different Rubbermaid-a-dors, and there's always one that is running drier than the others.) I keep things at 65 RH normally so when I get boxes at a more traditional 70 RH, it's too high for me.

well sure under your theory yes they should be seasoned, however don't forget that boxes full of cigars are coming out of humidors so they should already be seasoned, due to already being in a wet atmosphere. Whereas most cigar shops and online vendors are not going to keep there humidors in the humidor. So since the box has already hopefully been humidified then it shouldn't need to be seasoned.

I keep a cooler with nothing but empty, seasoned, boxes. Sure does come in handy when I need one.

Empty cigar boxes make good homes for picking up the occasional single. :)
If they've been kept in a humidor at relative humidity similar to their destination, no extra seasoning required.
