The old saying goes "You have to crawl before you walk", and that holds true for me working my way up the cigar chain, and also posting here.

I've read alot of good review threads here, and like to get my feet wet and give it a shot!

So with that in mind, let me tell you that I've never had a ISOM, OpusX, et al, but I hope to before 2006 comes to a close :D

I'm a fan of Rocky Patel's Vintage 1990 line up, and had wanted to try the RP Sun Grown, but my local shop didn't have them. CBid.com had 20 pack sampler with RP SG, 1990's, Connecticut, REO and the IT Super's for a good price. Maybe if this goes well I'll do up one on the Sun Grown, which are pretty good!

Ok, here goes!

The cigar info is from RP website

Indian Tabac Super Fuerte "Natural" Box Pressed
(they also have these in Maduro)

Wrapper, Binder: Nicaragua

Filler: Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica

Pre-lite draw was actually good, not too tight, which I have had problems with on the 1990's. It was just right! No soft spots, nice tight wrapper.

It lighted nice, and had a good even burn all the way through. Lots of smoke and a real nice aroma. Nice tight ash, light gray with a hint of black speckles. First 1/3'rd was a little peppery, with a light earthy/light oak taste in the middle. Ended up nice and spicy on the finish. A good medium bodied cigar, and I personally think this would make a nice mid-morning smoke. Oh, and took around an hour to smoke.

All in all, I'm glad I got the sampler. Haven't tried the other except the Sun Grown so far. All except the Connecticut were box pressed.

Smoked this after my Super Bowl dinner, of Baby Back ribs, Chicken Satay and Sweet-n-Sour shrimp, and a couple of Yuengling Black & Tan's, while watching The Stones at halftime!

Ok, whew glad my virgin review is over!! I hope it was ok.

I hope to post more as I learn and smoke my way up. I'm trying to read as much of the current and old threads as time allows.

Everyone here has been really nice, and I actually feel welcome, which is kinda rare on some forums in cyber space.

Thanks!

W

Great review  Are you sure this this was your first? ;)

Keep it coming Mr. Wolf.

I've had 2 of these myself in the past 6 months and was very impressed by both. They have a lot of flavor and the draw was probably the best of any cigar I have ever had. I have a muduro of these as well in the humidor that I will light up next week. Construction was very good as well. I had a HDM Dark Sumatra tonight and the ash was terrible; anything past an inch fell off.

Nice review! I haven't had a "natural" but have had several of the maduro and they are great.

For future reference and so you know..The RP Vintage is made at the General Cigar Factory at Danli, Honduras. He doesnt even make the Vintage line due to a deal he had to put in place to aquire some tobacco. Each roller at General averages 500 a day so the quality control isnt the best. The IT line is made in Danli, Honduras as well but its at his factory. But either way, I'm a RP fan and have visited factory once and going to again pretty soon for my second round.

The Sun Grown blend that most have had isnt in production due to one of the tobacco's they used in its construction ran out. So I dont know if the new one has hit the market yet but I did get a chance to do a blind taste test in hopes to get one close to the old one. You may want to try Cigars International or Holts online. They may have some of the Sun Growns in stock.

Thanks for the review, Dubya! You did fine, man.

I've seen Indian Tabac on CBid. I'll be watching them much more closely.

Edit: DOH!

Nice review and great first effort.

Keep 'em coming.

Wilkey

PS. Yep, I'd say Mr. Peat is the resident RP expert.
