I went to http://www.latingold.com and checked out their great cigars (very cool store, check it out next time you go to S.A.).

I am so pumped! I figured out what the differences are! They have natural, maduro, and flavored, so now I can go through the store and not be baffled as a newbie anymore!

The torpedo vanilla looks niiiiice.

Shhhh. In general, you probably don't want to say the "F" word around here... :0

It's almost as bad as the "L" word - but PB doesn't know that yet! :p

What is the "L" word? I figured that flavored cigars were probably pretty weak in the eyes of most purists. Does this mean that Latin Gold is a weak maker of tobacco products?

I don't think that is what Dave meant. You don't see flavored cigars mentioned much on this board. Everybody has different tastes when it comes to cigars. If you like flavored cigars, that's fine. Or if you like Lars Teten cigars(the L word) that's great too. I go by this saying, "Like what you smoke, smoke what you like."

Jason, yes, S.A. is San Antonio, TX. It's about four hours from here on a good drive, but that Latin Gold shop is very cool. They have guys hand rolling cigars in there all week. You can actually watch them make your box, I think.

Lars Teten, I have never heard of those. I actually do like flavored cigars in a way, but then again, I am just a learner, not a Jedi Master. If someone else that knows what they are doing tells me that I am wrong and that the reference is not flavored cigars, who am I to impart wisdom to them?

It's kind of like one of my other hobbies: Someone can tell me that an 18" woofer is a welcome addition to their home theater, but they may be a rookie who doesn't know quality sound from jack. So as a result, they need to take time to learn their place and learn about that which is greater than them. Cigars have been around forever. I have not. I am new to this, so I am looking for direction. Being provided with purpose is vital to experiencing the most a hobby has to offer.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with a quality 18" sub if you set up your system right, and dont mind it doubling as an end table...lol. I myself don't have a large room, so I dont need a sub that moves that much air. Also, the formats of music I listen to have notes down to 35 hZ. My 10 incher will hit 45 hZ, but with little SPL at the low end.
As far as flavored cigars go, the only ones I have tried are rum and cognac soaked ones...

mc, hey man shadow is right smoke what you like. however most here dont like flav puros. Im gonna have to check out that latin place I live here in SA let me know if theres something there you cant get and I'll mail some out.

Emo, I use 10s and I really believe that anything mainstream past 12" is going to sound so loose, you sacrifice sound quality for greater range. What good is 30Hz if it sounds like garbage? :p

Jason, that Latin Gold joint is in the Riverwalk mall on the second floor near the people moving mechanism (escalator). The guys are usually pretty cool, though there is one knob in there who likes to give sarcastic answers for a laugh (haha, I am not laughing). It's very interesting to see the guys cut and roll a cigar right there on their tables. Thanks for the offer, I may have to take you up on that!

JBL used to make a Pro line of subs that were very stiff. The sourround that they used wasn't made from the usual foam that is used today. So you could get very loud and very deep with no "looseness". This was at the sacrifice of efficency. These monsters ate gobs of power.
I think you can use any size sub if 1. The box design compliments the woofer, and not what fits in the house, or looks good. 2. Give the sub a narrow frquency band to work with. 3. If it is a ported box, add a sub harmonic fillter to it about 1/2 octive below your lowest freq. 4. Roll off the top end sharply. At least an 18 dB/octave slope, 24 is preferred for the larger subs.
Unfortunately, makers sacrifice sound quality for volume. You don't see too many sealed boxes out there any more. Mine is ported also. But then again, I don't have any $$$ to put into the speakers I want. Anyone out there have and speakers they want to donate to a hard working family man who can't afford the goods? LOL

yes, puro is the spanish word for cigar. can also mean pure depending on how its used. :) :) :)

McPatrick - I smoke Lars, and nobody calls those Puros :D

But then again, I also smoke some that are very much Puros, in my opinion.

puro brat, I'm still a greenhorn what exactly is a lars?

Jason, if you are asking the question sarcastically, disregard my answer...

Lars are Lars Teten cigars. From my research here, it seems that these cigars are all natural and have no control on the wrapper, etc. like traditional cigars do. They are more pricey, but there is an alternative to them called Acid cigars. They are about half the price in this area, I believe. Due to the fragant aroma, some posters believe that these cigars are not "real" cigars, but others enjoy them quite a bit. I think you might even find someone who wishes they could give up traditional smokes for the Lars Teten line (price permitting).

I am going to try one this week!

Not on this board...LOL :D

While we may want to believe that we (Gar smokers on the boards) represent a decent percent of the cigar smoking public, but we are yet only 2% of the cigar buying public.
I just finished a small informal survey and approximately 85% of the cigar buying public has been exposed to and reads CA and follows those ratings the purchasing trends also parallel the advertisements in that particular magazine.

And the scariest part, the newest smokers to join the Cigar world are entering through the Acid line. The attraction of the scented and flavored tobaccos has finally hit its intended market. Now how many will stay around and cross over into the traditionalists area of cigar smoking - who knows?

For some matter of fact (in your face) proof, check out some normal retailers and notice if they infact have been attracted to providing Acid cigars. It isn't because they like them; it is because they are selling like Mad and it has become good business to carry them.

I would have to agree that we do not even come close to representing the average cigar smoker.

We are the obsessed...LMAO

Starting to get like hairstyles......fluffed tobacco, frilled tobacco, enhanced tobacco, Gelled tobacco, shaved tobacco, Permed tobacco, and for those bald like me........tobacco * grins*...

Some of us have little choice... Tis a genetic thing! :D
