I'm currently stuck on a business trip in Tucson Arizona...with some nice cigars but no lighter and cigar cutter.

Got some matches from the cigar shop I visited, but didn't get my cigars cut.

I wanted to smoke at my hotel, thought of everything to cut/poke/slice the cigar...afraid that I had to bite the end off with my teeth ???

I happenned to bring my empty Carl's Jr. soda cup for an ashtray (Hardee's for the rest of 'ya)...

Then I had a revelation...what if I use the straw as a punch?

IT WORKED! I know this is stupid, but I so wanted to smoke an Opus X...but I didn't want to destroy it by biting the end off. I was so excited that it worked. I'm no boyscout, but I'm so proud I didn't have to bite off the end.

Anyone have any good tips for the cigar traveller, when you don't have the proper tools?

The power of the Opus is strong...

Keep your straw away from mine please. :D

Good job with the straw. Generally if you pick up a few sticks at a B&M they will give you a cheapie cutter if you ask. If I am ever completely without a cutter I hunt down a razor blade.

Rod...yes, I heard...

I think it's already getting to me...I've only smoked 1.5 inches of it.

Lucky thing I had a 6$ burger from Carl's Jr. I hope it'll keep me from turning green.

DemonR6...thanks for the info...I'll ask the next time I visit a B&M.

It sucks that we can't travel with lighters and cutters.

EDIT: The cigar I wanted to smoke is an Opus X No. 4.

1) Use a toothpick to poke a couple of holes in the cap.

2) Use a knife.

Yup as Moki said flip the cap off. That is what Alex and I had to do in the airport coming back from Vegas.

Well you won't replace McGyver but nice bit of ingenuity there.

They have $6 burgers at Carls Jr's now??? When I lived out in S.F., CA as a kid, Carl's Jr. was one of the cheaper places to grab a burger (next to McD's).

Congrats on your straw success/discovery. =) And yep, I've done the toothpick and knife trick too. Works pretty well in times of need.

6$ burger at Carl's isn't really $6...they call it that because they are trying make a restaurant-like burger for cheaper...like $3.50 ~ $4.00. It's just a bigger burger with some burnt edges on it...it's my favorite!

They don't consider Tucson the culinary capital of the world for nothing. BTW, you can travel with a cutter, just no lighter or incendiary devices of any type. Have fun at the Candy Store tonight :whistling:
