I am having a bit of a problem W/ my humidor. I am having to refill my humidification device every 2 days. i have a 200ct humidor. I don't know if it is a bad seal or what. How would i go about testing the humidor to see if it is a bad seal?

When i move my humidification device around the Humidity level changes too. When the humidification block is in the back (near the hinge), and the cigars to the front(near the latch) it reads 71-69%. However, when i flip the location of both then it reads 65-70%rh. I dont know if this has anything to do w/ anything.

I also have glass on the top and front of the box.

Any help would be appreciated

You need to season it, or take it back and tell them you have a bad seal. I would season it for a couple of weeks, and keep a record of the RH and temp

65%-70% is the ideal range so you're doing ok.

To have a consistent reading throughout your humi you may simply need more humidification (1 or 2 more bricks). Another humidification option is beads.

Now having said that, the first thing you should do is salt test your hygrometer so that you're sure it's reading accurately. Next, you want to season your humidor then check your seal.

If you still aren't happy with your readings after these steps, then it's time for a coolerdor. :D

A. Salt test your hygrometer
B. 60%-70% is not only considered ideal by many it is also considered high by many, many smokers prefer a little closer to 60%
C. Do the dollar bill and flashlight tests to check your seal (search is your friend)
D. Did you properly season the humidor? Consider re-seasoning.

As far as why the humidity changes according to placement of humidifier, what type of hygrometer do you have and where is it located?

And what do you use as a humidifier? (consider buying some beads, best purchase I've made since I joined CP)

If the above doesn't work, let us know and we can go from there.

Good Luck. :D

...i don't think the flashlight test will work on a glass top humidor...

Sure it will, just place something opaque over the glass

Thanks for all the help.... and thankfully I am not screwed .

The box was seasoned.

I used a friends digi hygrometer, and the readings were just about the same

When I added a seccond humidification device my problems were solved

I will prob give the beads a try too and see what works best.

Thanks a lot guys and happy smoking
