Hi all, I am still very new to the humidor world. Usually I would just buy a cigar when I wanted one but for christmas, my wife got me a whole bunch. That being said, I purchased a humidor from Amazon (
Mantello 25-50 Cigar Desktop Humidor Royale Glasstop). I am having a lot of trouble keeping it at optimal temperature. It seems the little sponge does not create enough Humidity, Any pointers?

Hi Mike.

Have you read the forum rules? Please do so. Post an introduction per the rules.
If you choose to do that, and stick around, I think you'll be glad you did.

In addition, due to being a well established cigar forum, the question has been asked ad nauseum. Do your intro, a little reading/research on seasoning a humidor, calibrating hygrometers, cello on or off ;-) (don't do that last one). Then narrow it down to some
questions based on some frame of reference.

Enjoy.

Welcome,

Please introduce yourself properly, use the forum search function. Breathe. You'll be fine.

I see that you did your intro. Thank you!
After reading some, are you still having any concerns?

Humidity and temp are different.

If it's too hot...then put it in a cooler location...too cold...put it in a warmer spot!

Humidity...no humid enough...check the seal or check the area it is in.
Winter time dryness usually requires more humidity.

So your issue is with temperature? Or humidity?
It's with the humidity. I just purchased a bigger sponge, I'm hoping the does the trick but the little one that came with it does nothing. It keeps the humidor at 65 but only for a few days. I usually have to throw a shot glass of distilled water in to get the humidity to 70.

Thank you! I'm still having the same problem with humidity. I just purchased a bigger humidifier sponge in hopes that will help. The one that came with my humidor is so small and im thinking that may be the issue.

How did you season the humidor?

Are you not going to try the search function as was suggested?

A) did you properly season your humidor? If you didn't there's a good chance your humidor is constantly sucking all humidity and will continue to do so.
B)glass tops are infamous for leaks unless they're higher end.
C)a pic can help us understand things better sometimes.
D)do you still have a whole bunch of cigars? If not get in on the newbie sampler trade here at Cigar Pass or pick up some value sticks to take up space as an empty humidor is tough to keep humidity up.

1. Is your hygrometer digital or analog? Has it been properly calibrated?

How did you season the humidor?
I kept a shot glass full of distilled water in the humidor for about three days, got the hygro to 72. Then I took the shot glass out and added the moistened humidifier sponge and the cigars.

Too short a seasoning time, imo. I am also wondering if that inexpensive humidor is using solid or veneer cedar. Look up how to check the seal of your humidor. Rule that out.
As C said, filling it up would definitely make a difference.

Analog that they come with are usually not great. Buy a digital one off anazon, or at your closest cigar shop (B&M). They'll run between 15-30 or so. Xikar, ink bird, oasis or caliber. I'd season your humi with a clean drinking glass that'll fit, fill about 1/2 way with distilled water then season fir a week. If you live in a drier climate like Colorado or Minnesota, 2 weeks. Boveda sells both a test kit to check your hygrometer's accuracy as well as a humidor seasoning packets (large at 75% humidity and 70% or 65% depending on your preference, to maintain humidity.

Thank you! I will do exactly as you say. Thanks so much for the help!!!
