I recieved my 12 bottle dual zone vinotemp and spent the last couple of days cleaing it out to get rid of the plastic smell. Today I added 65% beads and 2 hygrometers (1 in each zone). I calibrated both meters, before hand, and one was dead on and the other was -4. After the beads being in for about 10 hours I noticed that the humidity was reading around 80%. I was concerned so I took the beads out just to see if the humity would drop and I just check it ~5 hours later and it reads 88%. Im new to this but I dont understand how the humidity could go up after the beads where removed. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

It is summer time... It's really humid around here, don't know about NY...

I'd try more beads for a longer period and add in some cigar boxes or other form of the wood you're going to use...

I have a half pound of beads in each zone and also have a box on each shelve. I thought the amount of beads would be more than enough for the unit. Maybe in just jumping the gun and should give it more time?

Dry the beads out with a hairdryer leave them in there for 24 hours, then see if it is 70ish.if not wait another day it will eventually work.Keep from opening the door for the first 24 hours. Good luck

This should definitely work. I don't have beads (yet) but I have read that a hair dryer is the way to go to work on drying them out. If the beads are already over-saturated then they will have no way to pull more humidity out of the air. It has been very humid for the past few days and the fact that you cleaned (wiped out) the vinotemp probably left some humidity in the unit. So, if the humidity is too high you need to work on pulling out the humidity and need some dry beads.

I think I would opt for getting some odorless kitty litter and put in there along with your beads until the Rh comes down where you want it. I would not want to dry out my beads with a hair dryer.

Put some empty boxes in there for a few days, then take them out.

I had to take care of something like this last night. If your house is air conditioned, take the beads out for a few hours. The air conditioned air should be relatively low humidity, so that will dry out your beads.

This would also be more gentle on the beads than heat.

Ok thanks everyone for the info. I just dried out the beads and I guess we wait and see what happens.

Had the same problem with mine here in Texas. I got some cedar shelves in there now and 3-4 boxes at any given time. About every 2 weeks I take my beads out let them sit on top of the fridge overnight. After I put them back in the fridge, they maintain 68-71% perfectly.

Some empty boxes should help until you get it regulated, after that just drying the beads every few weeks should do fine.
