Hygrometer for iPad?

Does anyone know of a wireless hygrometer that can update measurements to an iPad? I suppose it would have to update to a local computer that i could access remotely with my iPad. I would like to know my humidor condition remotely.

Another option would be a small wireless camera inside your humi pointing at your "normal hygrometer". Might have to find one with a light though that could be remotely activated. I think you would find more options for cameras than wireless hygrometers. You could then link to it through the net at anytime you wanted to.

Is there a reason you would need this though? It shouldn't be something you should need to check like that. Its not like being at work wondering, "Did I leave the stove on?"

lol. No, I guess I just thought it would be useful for when I am on the road; I could ask the wife to add some solution. I was thinking about one of the wireless meters that are used for weather; the kind you hang a display on the wall but the sensor is outside. If the sensor was small enough to fit inside the humidor, and if it could communicate with a PC (similar to a weather station) then I could set something up to read it on my iPad. I tend to smoke less in the winter, and my humidors need more attention in the winter. If I could have the data sent to my PC, then perhaps i could even set up alarms when a threshold was met -- like an email or sms message. "Hey dude, add fluid!" I have done a little research, but I have not found anything yet. So I thought I would ask this forum.

Anyone have any ideas?

The smart ass comment would be to teach the wife how to maintain the humidor. I'm surprised no one has said that yet. I have no idea what would allow you to do that. My question would be how big is your humidor?

I ask this because there is the Avallo Accumonitor system for your bigger humidors. You can see when the containers need to have distilled water added. But outside this, I'm at a loss for any help. Would be kind of cool to be able to access remotely. Because I myself have taken trips overseas for 2 months at a time. Which means I need to teach my sis-n-law how to maintain it. yikes!

I was just kinda thinking that if you are in communication enough to say, "Hey, I noticed on my remote readout here on my iPad that the relative humidity in my humidor appears a bit low for my preferences. Could you please add some solution to the beads in order to return it to the optimal levels?", or, "could you turn the heat down a bit in the office?"... then couldn't you just say, "Hey, baby, what's the readout on my hygro say in the humi? Oh, really, could you put another few ounces in there for me, then? KTHXBY."

I guess I could understand if you just prefer to talk to your wife as little as possible without reason while you are on the road... :p

haha. This is more of a geeky challenge rather than a unsolvable problem. I understand that obviously humidors have existed long before the iPad, so there are plenty of ways to maintain the humidor, but I do appreciate the humor. :)

I think I may have found the answer: http://www.amazon.com/gp/mpd/permalink/m1XJROF54PSDV0/ref=ent_fb_link
For $35, I will at least check it out.

I will post the results in case anyone is curious.

Steve,
That looks really cool. Please post results when you get this going.
Thanks in advance.

Hmmm. $35 isn't bad at all. How would you make sure you still have a good seal. The seal on a refrigerator is pliable. You would be able to get a good seal and have the lid fully closed. I suppose you could always drill a small hole in the bottom corner with some sort of a grommet to snake the sensor through.

Caring friend - "Hey Steve you sure are popular. People have been texting you every minute for the last three hours. Sounds like you're taking the divorce in stride."

Steve - "No. It's just my humidor telling me that my new box of Opus X is not dry, brittle, and unsmokable."
