I know the forum rules say to search before asking a question, and im sure this has to be a common one, but when I search it never finds anything.....maybe search is messed up? anyway. What is the best or PERFECT % of humidity to keep my humidor at?

Also the humidity packs, do they work both ways? ex. if my box was 75% and I added 2 69% packs would it lower it by absorbing the extra?

Sorry im new to the game lots of dumb questions.

I don't think there is a "perfect" humidity, just like there isn't a "perfect" cigar. It depends on how you like them. Some like 72% and other 65%. No one really likes pi% The question about beads soaking up excess humidity has been discussed and I'm guessing humipaks work on a similar concept.

Round up a hundred experienced cigar smokers and ask them that question.  You'll get answers all the way from 55% to 75%.  It is really very much personal preference.  No coincidence that the majority of smokers keep their sticks between 62% and 68%...65% seems to be pretty common.  Get much over 70% and the risk of mold goes up exponentially.

If you search a bit more on this topic, you'll find many recommendations on making sure your hygrometer has been calibrated so you know that it's accurate.  The 'salt test' works fine, Bovida makes a pretty sweet cal kit that is almost completely stupid proof.  Unless you can trust your hygro, the whole discussion is a moot point.

Lastly, don't freak out about a point or two in RH.  Lots of new guys really go obsessive over RH and honestly, to a large degree it almost doesn't matter.  If your storage runs anywhere between 60% and 70%, chances are your smokes will be fine.  I know there are guys that swear they can taste a point or two difference, and I think they're nuts.  Cigars are pretty good at holding moisture, so changing your storage a point or two won't have much effect until the sticks have been in that new environment for a month or so.  This is supposed to be a relaxing pastime, remember...??... ;)

Tom (BBS) pretty much nailed it.

As for the bovida pack thy are 2 way for sure! Unlike the beads that is being discussed in another thread. Check out their website it's pretty informative.

Yes I know I was hard up on keeping my RH, I had 5 hygrometers inside my 3ft humi, LOL I am nuts.
Now I am a little more lax Thanks to the fine people on these forums putting me at ease.

67.3% is the perfect RH, assuming you have your humidor at the perfect temperature, 18.4 ºC. Adjusted for sea level, of course.

1) Try first...then ask.
2) Work on the grammar and punctuation and caps.
3) Yes...like insight, humipaks go both ways.
4) As for perfect humiditiy...it depends:
a) for longterm storage
b) for which cigars - some sticks like a slighly different % than other.

All of thes points have been discussed, as well as folks commenting on using better grammar, etc. Please make an attempt.
If search is broken - give the humidor thread a look - or the cigar thread - you'll find a wealth of information, unless you're just being lazy!

My uncle works for aerospace in danbury, he helped make some parts for hubble. Ill ask him to design me some kind of air tight, vacuum chambered, climate controlled, dust free, humidor. Ill get back to you all on that. LOL

How would I go about starting my own aerospace company that supplies NASA?

Humidorology 101 - depends on the cigar, the smoker, and sunspots. :P

Now Tom, you bring up an interesting question. Sea level is relative to altitude. I'm here at 657 feet ASL, so what do I use to interpolate the difference from absolute sea level to my level above sea level?
