I am planing on building a humidor out of oak veneered mdf i purchased at menards. I want to veneer the inside of the humidor with spanish cedar and my question is what adhesive should i use for veneering that wont harm the cigars and will deal with the high humidity? Also will veneering over the veneer on the mdf cause any problems?

Screws. I would use solid wood in that application. But to each his own. Part pixies of your progress.

Now for the formalities. Please follow the rules of the community you have signed up for. Post a intro, fill out your profile. Tell us a little about you. It will go a long way.

A light veneer will not help with the maintenance of humidity levels in your Humi.  I would use 1/4" to 3/8".  It will better absorb and assist you in maintaining consistent humidity levels.  If you are going to go through all of the effort to build a humidor.......do it right the first time! :whistling:

Yea, I agree that a veneer is not going to cut it. I would suggest some 1/4" thick, min boards and put the bottom in first, no adhesives, the floating sides with a tiny bit of play, maybe 1/64 to 1/32 max. You want to allow some expansion and contraction of the cedar. If you have to glue boards together to get large enough pieces of Cedar, look  into elmers white glue. My understanding is that it is a bit more flexible than the yellow wood glue. (check me on that point.) You can always ask for a "MSDS", (Material Safety Data Sheet) or just find it, and download it  "Food Grade" is a good term to add to your searches.

Listen to broblues and MadMonk, a spanish cedar veneer will make it look like a real humidor but it won't make it work like one.  A 1/4" thick board should do the trick, 3/8" would probably be the best.  Good luck!

It will be a 24" by 24" by 24" cabinet humidor and using 1/4 spanish cedar will be much much more expensive than veneer. It will also have a avallo humidifier.

I would be worried about the formaldehyde out-gassing from the MDF.  I don't think covering it with Spanish Cedar will prevent it.

You have to use the right MDF. The very high end type, like what Bob Staebell uses, is not an issue. The PMDI Binder used in High End water resistant MDF (which"MDF" is a catch all term, in today's world, for any bonded fiber core product) is not formaldehyde based.
