Humidor Problem

You forgot to figure in height above sea level in your calculations.

Humidity decreases 1% per 100 feet increase in height above sea level.

Wow...that was a lucid, well-worded, informative fact that not only was interesting, but completely relevant to this topic...

Who the hell are you? Where's Lee?? ???

If this is true, I don't think that I have to really worry about the decrease in humidity due to the height in sea level in my area. If my calculations are correct, my location where I live is about 29.9 to 32 feet above sea level. I know this fact from the ATC (Air Traffic Control) weather report that I have to listen to in order to set the altimeter in the plane during the pre-flight safety check before going flying.

Does this plane have a remote control?? :p

What type(s) of aircraft are you checked out in Bill?

Bill...

How many altimeters do you have in your plane, and how often do you calibrate them.
"I looked at it this morning and it was 29, then this afternoon it was 32. If this doesn't stop I'm gonna need to get a new plane!"

Just don't add semen to the atmosphere in your room with the humi's. It will throw all your calibrations off.

If this is true than I am OK because I know for a fact there are no sailors floating around my room. (I make sure they stay in the basement)

:p

Back in the late 1980's, I used to take some flying lessons in a Cessna 152, Cessna 172 and Piper Warrior. I have logged over 52 hours learning to fly in a private plane. I remember that I had to calibrate the altimeter inside the plane before taxing and before every take-off at the airport. The way that the calibration was done was by listening to the weather report from the ATC. In the weather report, it used to say what the barometric pressure was. Upon hearing what the barometric pressure was from the ATC weather report, I calibrated the altimeter to it.
Flying is another one of the things which I love to do, but due to its very high cost and expense, I don't go flying very often.

You do have to set the altimeter in an aircraft prior to take of and landing. I used to have to give the altimeter reading for my flight deck to every helo that landed or took off.

If this is true, I don't think that I have to really worry about the decrease in humidity due to the height in sea level in my area.

Does the sea level change heights dramatically in your area?

I've never heard of this before. I have to find out how high above sea level Toronto is and take this into consideration. Thanks for the information!

That brings up my next question. Since I have my cigars in coolers, which are plastic, will my cigars float?

So this is why they always have at least one boat at the Burning Man festival at Death Valley.
