Got this thing at an auction last night. I think it is an old humidor, but am not entirely certain. Any input from you guys in the know would be appreciated.

It is copper on the top and the knobby legs with leather around the middle. Nice hammered/rustic look to it. About 8.5 inches square and 7 inches high on the exterior, 7 inches square by 4.2 inches deep interior.

Looks like a trinket box to me. The lid does not look like it would seal very well. However, I have seen some really old boxes that were intended to be used to store cigars and they were lined with tin and such and did not look like very good seals either.

I would bet with minimal modification you could use it as a humi.

However, and whatever you use it for, it looks really nice.

I wouldn't bet it is air tight (or semi air tight) preventing the humidity to be maintained and stable, nice display box though.

I have seen no shortage of old tin-lined, copper-lined "humidors" from the old days. This however, just as others have stated, the top/lid looks a little dubious in the "seal" department. Because of that, I would think it's more likely a trinket box. Still very nice though, so congrats on the score!

My daughter has already claimed it as her own.

So no matter what it was, it is now a box for her journal.

For 5 bucks I can't complain.
