I have a new humi tower that I have nearly refinished. I want to have some medium to soft lighting inside to highlight my burgeoning collection. I have found some battery pwered LED puck lighting, but it casts a strange blueish glow. Halogen pucks are too hot. Rope Lighting seems tacky. Any suggestions for medium to soft lighting with low heat and without a strange glow or tacky looking?

Here's what it looks like in progress.

Thank you in advance for the advice.

Try these in "Warm White"; they have a color temperature of 3500k, which means they won't be pure white in appearance, but more like the soft glow from a incandescent bulb.

Bulbs at around ~5500k will be pure white, and bulbs rated higher will be blue to purple to eventually black in appearance.
Below ~5500k, bulbs will be yellow to orange, to red in appearance.
Typical incandescent bulbs are around ~3000k.
If your interested, those LED Modules are available at: http://www.superbrightleds.com/fit.htm

Or, if you somehow derive your power from yellow light, get a few of these puppies;

If your interested in those linear LED strips, I suggest you shop around though, they can be available for alot less than what that particular website is offering them at (they do have nice pictures though :)).

For more suggestions, just google: LED "under cabinet lighting".

Also, make sure you stick with LEDs. As you already mentioned, halogen (and other filament bulbs) will get too hot.
But also, I heard that UV rays from fluorescent lighting can eventually fade your cigars. - However, I personally, am not 100% certain on that, but better safe then sorry.

IKEA, if you have a store around you, has some good LED setups that I used for mine. They have a flat puck light that I used or also some linear type that would work well. It is low voltage and mounts with peel and stick tape. Looks great in my cabinet.

The LED from IKEA were $30 or less........for a set of 3.

I'd definitely recommend the leds. If you don't like that blue tint from the white leds, you can always get the regular yellow ones. Try http://autolumination.com/ . They've got several pigtail leds and fixtures that might work. I've used them several times before without any problems.

I use rope lighting but it is hidden by the frame so you really can't see it at all.

Here is a very old pic of it.

Wow, those are some great looking humidors. I just got a Tower of Power and am really interested to see how some of the lighting comes out. I did try some of the pucks from Costco, but didn't like the light they cast either. My problem if finding something that is easy to turn on and turn off without having to unplug. Some of those square leds look really cool, how do they connect up?

Hey AVB,
That rope lighting looks great. I am going to try that in my CA3668. Do the rope lights give off any substantial heat?
Also, how did you run the power, did you drill a hole and seal it afterwards?

Wow, those are some very nice setups!

If you don't like the look of rope lights and don't want to pay the extra $$$ for good LED lights, EL wire (Electroluminescent wire) might be a good alternative. I’ve used it as accent lighting in building poker tables and have been very pleased with the results. It’s pretty cheap ($30-40 dollars for a 20’ string) and doesn’t give off any heat. You can get it online here:

They have tons of different products, sizes, colors, etc. They have premade sets (that don’t require assembly & soldering) - this is the set I bought:

You also might want to check at your local auto parts store. They usually have a lot of different sizes & styles of LED lights.
