Just a reminder, if you have a large humidor and use a humidifier such as an Avallo, don't forget to wash out the canisters every now and then.  They can become slimy if you don't wash them.  Just a reminder. ;)

I wash mine out when the wicks get replaced.  Good advice, Rod - !!

By the way, I used the excellent review here on CP to purchase my Avallo Accumonitors, and I am very glad I did.

Speaking of Avallo systems - yesterday I had a bit of a scare in my cabinet humidor. All three numbers were flashing non stop so I tried what Paul did to try to reset it and held the down button for a minute and nothing. I tried disconnecting and re-connecting the power supply and nothing.

I quickly got on the phone with Matt from Avallo and did some troubleshooting over the phone. He thought that it was the power supply that failed and was going to put one in the mail for me. My neighbor has the same unit so I borrowed his power supply to confirm and sure enough that is what it was.

Due to the storms around the US, I didn't want to take a chance and bought one at my local radio shack so that I didn't have my unit off for a couple of days.

I have had the Avallo system for about 2 or 3 years now and this is the only thing that has gone wrong with it. Matt at Avallo has been great. I also have Bob Staebell's Set & Forget It system in my walk in and can't say enough about Bob's customer service as well.

I replace the wick's on my Avallo every 6 months and will be doing the same with the Set & Forget it. To be honest both systems work great and I can't choose which one I like better.

Great advice on a very important piece of maintenance.

Just did mine about a month or so ago...I do it at the beginning of each new year...plus adding a few drops of vodka in there at each refill helps keep the mold & slime at bay.
