OK, so the plans are pretty much complete for my armoire, but I'm down to deciding which humidification unit I want to use. I'm looking at:

Set & Forget - Aristocrat
Accumonitor - Avallo
Artisan - Arlin Liss

Any opinions on what's the best option? I know there are probably several factors I'm not thinking about, but of course accuracy, large reservoir option is nice, reliability, easy to fill.

Thanks,
Wade

I would also be interested in this do to the fact that I am also building a humidor!

:)

The set & forget works very well!

Great service from the company was very much appreciated!

All three of those are fine and work great. You can't go wrong with any of them.

As to the beads not working..... not so. They will work and work quite well in a large cabinet. Been using them for years in a 6x4x2 cabinet with nothing but two small fans circulating a little air. I use about 1/2 to 1 lb on each shelf with about a 1/2 lb in the drawer section.

I have a set & forget and have never had problem

I've spoke to Bob several times, he's one hell of a guy.

Set-n-Forget in my humi for the past 5 years...no problemos

Respectfullly, my Humidification is no longer sold seperately.

Avallo and CMT both make Humidifiers that will do.

Not one of the options, not a viable one really for a humidor of this size. I'm sure I'll have several spots with beads for backup, but not for the main humidification.

Absolutely not true......

You may as well argue over tastes. Technically, you are correct. However, for me, and I'm guessing for Wade, not a viable choice. If I were building on that scale, I'd be kicking it up a notch and going with automation.

Bob is a great guy to work with and can be counted on to help out if issues arise. He has many units in the field with very happy owners.

....I think you've got your answer right there.

Good Luck - B.B.S.

Depending on the environment around your cabinet, beads may not be a good option. You're best bet is to go with one of the higher end units. Matthew at Avallo has a great unit as well as Bob's. I'd say you're making the right choice with either one of those guy's stuff.

Totally agree that Matthew's or Bob's unit are great and work well and one should definently match their own needs with what works best for them but..... I have to throw the BS flag when someone says beads are not a "viable" option in a large cabinet. They work and work well.

The end result of what one needs accomplished is to maintain/control the rh inside of the cabinet. To that end, if the enviroment is maintained, there is no difference in the delivery. RH is RH. The delivery system is only the instrument to get the enviroment to the desired rh.

Note: this has nothing to do with ones own decision as to what is right for them. Costs, ease of use, cosmetic, and a number of other factors go into the decision. I'm also not saying that beads are better, just that they are an effective and viable option and accomplish the same end result of maintaining rh in a large cabinet. This is not an opinion. :p

I have an Avallo, and find their Accumonitor system to be spot on. It's about as "set and forget" as it gets. I have no experience with the other systems mentioned, but can say their system works fine with my end table sized Avallo. Came with a couple of wicked jars that have a fan on top that circulated the humidified air, and once it stabilized, I only need to refill the jars every 6-8 weeks. Takes up much less real estate inside my humidor, than the number of beads it would take, and it's a self-monitoring system. When you're out of water, it flashes to let you know, but after awhile, you know when it's time to add some water.

Thanks for all the replies. It's not that I don't trust the beads or don't think they'd work, hell I use them now and love them. I just wanted a more automated system that's all. I like the set & forget, but the size of the unit that I'd need looks to be pretty big, the Accumonitor seems to be a little easier to conceal. In addition, I'd prefer to not have to fill the reservoir/beads that often, and if I can get 6-8 weeks out of a tank, that'd be awesome. I have Ron from Avallo calling me today sometime, and I'll call Bob today as well and make my decision. I just want to get started on building.

There really isn't a "set and forget" system for a cabinet humidor. All "systems" require maintenance. Some more than others... Much depends on how big the space is that need to be humidified - what the environmental rH outside of the humidor is - and how well your humidor is sealed.

Unless you somehow have an fully automated water purification system hooked as a direct feed to the water tray in the "automated" system within the humdior, you're gonna be filling trays and tanks, spraying beads, soaking foam - whatever..

Beads are really a viable choice - and do have a tendency to maintain a more even humidity level in a closed environment like a cabinet humidor. I personally am very impressed how well they have worked for my setup - compared to the way it was... ;)

Get the Set & Forget.

The beads are good. But you will have to spread them out and maintain a few stockings or containers in a humi this size.

The Set & Forget you need to watch one hydrometer and fill one reservoir. If you get this from Bob ask him to fit it with the amount of fans he thinks you will need for your size humidor.
