I have been searching and searching for the answer to this question and i just can not seem to find it.
My humidor which I seasoned and seemed fine for a few weeks is now staying at a constant 80% nothing I do seems to bring it down i have tried 2 different hygrometers and they both read the same.
Have I done something wrong. Also forgive me i am sure this question has been asked i just couldn't find it.

On advice from different people here I have ordered

Heartfelt Thermo Hygrometer and 4 Ounce 70% Rh (BLACK Cap) Heartfelt Humidity Tube maybe this will help get things regulated.

80RH is too high, you might split your cigars if it stay to long in that condition.
Beads sounds like a good idea, but why not get a 65RH beads? just mho.

Get a digital hygrometer. The analogs suck and are almost never right... My humi is like yours and is almost 10 off.

I just ordered the digital from Heartfelt Industries I am hoping that makes the difference.

Mke sure you calibrate that digi. I've had em be 7-8% off. I highly recommend the adjustable digi from heartfelt industries. It's nice to see a hygro reading 65% in a humi with 65% beads. ;)

Welcome to CP, pull up an ashtray and make yourself at home.

First Observation: good job with the pic's. That's very helpful

My second observation is it looks like you're buying your cigars from Thompsons. I've read that Thompsons sends their cgars wet (over humidified) this could give you a high reading.

Third observation, you really need more sticks in your humi. Cigars are hygroscopic and play a part in balancing your rh.

Now, my first question is how do you know that your hygrometer is accurate? Analogues look nice but they're notoriously inaccurate. How have you tested/calibrated it?

That should always be the first thing you look at when you have high or low readings but you really are better off with a good digital hygro. The advice you've been given to get your hygro and beads from Heartfelt is about as sound as you can get. Make sure you order some beads too, talk to them and they'll make sure you get exactly what you need.

Final suggestion, quit buying from Thompson. Check out the Newbie Trade Thread for starters.

I have received them wet and sometimes extremely dry or so it seems.

I just ordered several sticks should about fill it half way

I havent really done any testing other than wrapping in a warm towel I have the hygro from my other humi which is showing the same 80% I added express shipping on the digital hygro so hopefully it will be here fast and i can throw out the analog

I was actually working on reading through that thread when I came back to check on responses here.
Being fairly new and not quite 100% happy with Thompsons well not that I am not happy with them just maybe looking for something better is what brought me here in the first place.

I gotta agree with Mac here. I use the Heartfelt adjustable hygro and 65 %RH beads, and all I can say is wow! After I got the Hygro calibrated, which was only off by 3%. I stuck it all in and let it set for a night, and when I opened it the next morning 70 degrees and 65%RH. It rarely moves from that, and about the only time it does is when open it for a little while to rearange smokes. Hope this helps you some.

I had those same Thompsons given to me and I ended up throwing them all in the trash!

Just to clarify, I agree with all stated above and will add that your humi should be a minumum of 1/2 full at all times. If it is not, it will never stabilize. If you cant afford that many sticks right now, fill the extra space with something like bubble wrap, bubble tube, cedar/luaun blocks...something safe for cigars/humidity that will displace the open air.
