My very first vitola from the Hoyo brand just happened to come from a cab made in 1998. What a treat. I was worried when I first cracked the cab and noticed just how fugly the cigars looked. :whistling: Many cigars on the top row had numerous spots of dark green tobacco that didn’t age. Luckily for me this didn’t seem to affect the smoking experience. :D

I smelled spice coming off the foot of the cigar along with a rich smell of Cuban tobacco.

I used my Xikar cutter to just score the head and flip the cap off to find a little divot staring at me. The cigar light easily and drew evenly throughout the smoke.

The initial taste was a very full-bodied creaminess with a core of roasted coffee. The smoke was surprisingly thick and strong for such a small cigar.

The ash is layered with ribs. Just beautiful consistency.

I noticed some wonderful complexity twenty minutes into the cigar. The core of roasted coffee began a delicate, yet noticeable shift toward a heavy soil with undertones of leather left on the finish. The creaminess never seemed to fade, even as the cigar shifted to a more full-bodied smoke toward the end.

I found this to be the most enjoyable Petit Corona, sorry. . . Almuerzo, that I’ve smoked to date. Simply a delight. I can only wonder why they were discontinued. ???

Great review and pics!! Sounded like a very tasty cigar.

Very nice review and great pics!
I see almost everyone smokes vintage's last days :)

GREAT Review Marc,

That's it, I was trying to save this stick for a later date, but I think it's time to give it back to the gods.

I forgot about the Du Prince until you reminded me!

Funny - I had mine last night....great smoke, spot on review!

The 'dark green tobacco' - I thought were just 'water marks'.....I'll have to take a closer look.

I had my Du Prince from 98 as well on Friday and must say it was one of the best cigars I've had. Full of flavor, complex - everything I'm looking for in a PC. I really really loved every breath of it.

I had no idea they are discontinued?! So I can't get more?! This is INCREDIBLY disappointing to read. Can someone provide more information regarding this?

Nice review... I just received cab resting for a few weeks now and hope to have the same experience.

They aren't on any discontinued cigar list I have seen. I think Marc is smoking something other than cigars.......... :whistling:

I have had two from this cab, and while they are ugly as hell, one of the better smokes I have had. Excellent flavor and construction.

Discontinued in cabinets of 50, which is how they're presented.

Great review.

Sounds like a good cigar you had there.

Thanks for the pics.

Very nice, glad you enjoyed it.

It is a shame the CABS were discontinued? :whistling: It is ok to admit you were wrong my son, we will forgive you.

<Sigh>

CABS are still being produced ya little spider monkey, but only 25 ct Cabinets for the moment. The 50 ct Cabinets have been discontinued.

Clarification on the discontinued list

Look at the rings on that ash... looks like a nice smoke. Great review, thanks for sharing. :)
