The power went out last night, and temps were in the 80s. I hadn't watched my beads in the bottom of my Vino very close for the past few days, and they had become overly saturated. While the power was out, the RH must have gotten into the 80% range. I woke up to find the temp back in the 60F range, the RH at 47%, and mold on the beads

I dried them out with a hair dryer and shifted through them with a pair of tweezers picking out every last one with any mold on them. Took the better part of 3 hours. Beads are fine now, and the humi is happily back in the low 60% range. That will teach me not to let a fun weekend get in the way of checking on my Vino!!

Sorry to near that John. Definitely blows, but glad to see that you got it sorted out. Live and learn, right?

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't re-use beads that were moldy, regardless of the ones with visible mold being picked out.

Ditto. Buy new beads.
X3. Just because you can't see mold, doesn't mean there isn't any. I managed to mold my beads up once; pitched 'em and replaced them all. Only way to go, IMHO....

That is one of the reasons I use fairly dry beads to provide an upper limit and active humidification(Hydra) set just below that. That way it is very difficult to over humidify, RH recovers more quickly and varies little. I just need to make sure the Hydra doesn't dry out - once a month.

Much more care free.

Storing them in boxes helps, too.

Yep, have them all in boxes. No singles in the Vino. Happy to report that all is well with the beads. I dried them out fully and baked them in the oven til they were completely white like Viper suggested. Good as new!

I'm happy to hear this. However, if it were me....I'd be thinking the whole 'better safe than sorry' and spend a couple extra bucks (get new beads) to protect my investment(s). I'd keep an eye on those beads in a seperate container, versus one with my sticks. If all is well, then you're good to go. If not, at least you know nothing was ruined.

Just my $.02
