I haven't seen this done before, and didn't see any actual polls regarding this in the past, unless my search skills suck.

So how many times do you try a cigar before you decide you either like it or hate it? Mostly how many chances do you give a cigar?

Do you try it just once, and if it's no good move on? There's just way too many cigars out there to be trying something multiple times if you didn't like it the first time.

Or do you try it twice, just in case the first time was an isolated incident. And this can go both ways. The cigar may be really good or really bad, but the second time can be completely different.

Which is why maybe a third try is in order?

I don't know why four times would be an answer.

Fivers are easy to buy, so perhaps this will be popular.

Same goes for ten, although that's alot of cigars if you don't like the first couple.

As well as a whole box. But maybe you'll buy the whole box because it's cheaper than singles, and you can trade or sell the rest if you don't like them.

I think I know what I like by this time...so it's hard for me to even try new things...unless it really comes highly recommended by those on this board. Not to say I'm only an Opus X and Padron whore...I am...but there are other smokes I like. But when I know what is within my profile. And stick with it.

two usually, but I picked three because i've tried a smoke three times before liking it

Domestics I will try twice. Habanos, I will try one from at least 3 different years before making a decision.

Ill try them at least twice before i give up or base an opinion on them...anything less could just be a fluke.

I replied that I tried a cigar three times. It really depends on what my first impression was of the cigar. If it was just nasty, I doubt that I'll smoke another. If it was just inconsistent or bad construction, I will almost always give it one or two more tries. If I think it needs age, I will give it many tries to see if it comes around. I guess 3 would be the average.

Many smokes that I've tried that I didn't like the 1st time I will probably never try again. But if it is a highly recommended smoke I will certainly give it another shot or 2. The Anejo is an example of this. The 1st one I tried I hated but I could not let that be my last one considering how everyone clamors over these sticks. I ended up giving some aged Anejos a try and now I like them.

I picked 5er just because you get 5 packs most times and I cann't stand to throw things away that I spent good money on that is still good.

Being still new to cigars I can't imagine going to the humi to decide what to smoke and picking something I didn't like before over something new or something I know I'll like, especially since I only smoke 2 to 3 times a week. But, I would try a smoke that is highly recommended at a later time...after all tastes do change over time....I used to hate whisky, now it's my drink of choice...picked twice.

I voted twice, but honestly, it depends on what I didn't like. If it's a fundamental flavor issue, I probably won't try it again. If it's something that might be attributable to improper storage, or a quality imperfection, I'll give it another shot.

It only took one Acid to know I wouldn't be having another.

I'll try four or five if they come highly recommended. Otherwise one or two bad ones and I'm done ;)

I will try at least 3 times just to be sure. You can have a good one and then the next is bad...so which is it...a third will determine for me. Now if the first to for me were bad then I give up on them right away.

Twice but I will generally wait a while if they were purchased at the same time with the thought that some humi time will improve it.

I would have to say atleast 2 times.
I feel sometimes I might get a bad stick so a 2nd try is not out of the question. Now I will try a smoke three time if I bought a 5 pack. If the first try is bad and the 2nd time no better, then I will let the rest sit for a couple of months. At that point I will fire my 3rd try. If it still bad I will drop it and give the other away.

Usually twice. If I hate the cigar second time around, I will not try it again. There are just too many good cigars out there.
The exception to that is ISOMs. Aging can do wonders for those cigars.

I'll will try a cigar only twice but under correct conditions so I may try it more than twice if the conditions were not good such as I smoked it at the wrong time of the day.

I will try it for three times. The first (2) I will buy from the same place.

Then the last I will get elsewhere.

That usually covers all issues.
