How long would you age an ANEJO?

Is it worthwile to age them or are they aged enough from the factory process?Do they develop more character over some years?I got a shark down in daytona in the summer and I smoked it right away and it was horrible, it had the taste of diesel fuel or some kind of chemical. I was just wondering if it needed age or maybe it was just a bad one?I have some coming and I think I will smoke one of them as soon as I get them to see.

Even fresh, no Añejo should taste like that -- at all.

But yes, age improves these cigars like any other. I have some from 2001 that are smoking incredible now.

I think you'll find that the aging and Dominican tobacco will mellow it a bit, if that's possible. In other words, the edge will be taken off a bit. I don't know about diesel fuel or chemicals as far as taste, but newer Dominicans often leave a harsh aftertaste, IMHO. Older ones will still have the same characteristics, but that "edge" will be more subdued. The Anejos are a bit of an anomally if you go back to the original ones and then compare them to more recent ones. It's obvious to me that the tobacco in the original released Anejos was aged longer, prior to rolling. They were very flavorful, yet mellow to smoke, right out of the box. The subsequent releases were rushed a bit, IMO. I'm not sure they will ever be up to par with the original release because the aging is now being down after they were rolled.

The last one in my box gets aged at least long enough until I'm lucky enough to replace it.
