I am sending a friend a package who is in Asia. He is in need of some smokes..

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for a care package to make it to asia?
If I send it Registered air mail?

Also should the same shipping techniques be used when shipping cigars? Or do I need to take extra precautions?

thanks

Don't know about Asia (that covers a lot of ground) but per my experience sending a box to Azon in Finland, have your friend find out about local customs regulations so that he doesn't end up paying for your gift in duties.

Good packaging a must, but no better than you'd use for a stateside package or pass.

global priority mail will make it TO the destination country in 3-5 business days, and it'll also (in theory) get preferential treatment going through customs. After it makes it to the country in question, it's all up to them in terms of how long it takes to clear customs, and how long it takes for local delivery.

As for packing it, I double-bag anything going overseas (ie, a ziplock in a ziplock), and I include a Humidipak to keep the humidity reasonable... and pad it well, of course.

Mark it as a gift, and don't declare the value to be much.

I live in Japan and most packages from the US make it to my door in 7-10 days (priority Air mail). When I lived in Korea it was more like 8-12 days. Other than that bit o info, everything else was already well stated.

true about japan.
I've found that their postal system is at least as efficient as the USPS.
a good friend of mine lives in tokyo, and we're constantly sending packages to each other.
via air-mail, they'll sometimes be delivered as quickly as 5 or 6 days.
