So since my first post I found that while keeping my COXL on the top shelf I did not have any issues, I could keep at 65-68% and tell the difference in the analog reading 72%. So that being said, I went on a spending spree and had to remove the top shelf to make more room putting the COXL in the base of the humi. But with more cigars everything seemed to be ok, the COXL read 68-72 but now the analog reads 70. (with the COXL's crazy readings sometimes reaching 78% this afternoon) Now here is my concern, with the shifting and additions, I admit that I have opened it way to much and Im paranoid that I may have sucked out all the moisture. When I first bought the humi I seasoned it with the COXL. Now that I have opened and closed and open and closed how do I know if I am still in good shape? the analog will not go above 70 now. Does it just take some time to recharge? I am nervous and do not want to ruin all the new stash I just bought.

Any help? Even a shut up just be patient will suffice.

I also want to add that when it was not full I could feel, really smell the humidor while opening it. Now it does not feel as humid not is the smell as strong.

I think you should start by getting a good digital hygro and calibrating it so you know where you truly stanf for RH.

I had to read that3 times.. Forget about the analog.. Go digital.. Stop worrying, and check it in a day or two, not every minute or two.. I know I have been guilty of that one..

I just ordered a Xikar Digital Hygrometer to get a second opinion. I am very guilty of being paranoid and checking to often....just want to make sure that I have not (or can) suck out all the moisture....let alone pump too much humidity and open it up and find beetle holes.....make my head stop.

Slow down!! If you are continually opening and closing the humi of course you are going to lose RH. Also, if you added quite a few new sticks you again could lose RH based upon what the humi specs were that you got them from. Do things as you did before hand and let everything rest for a few days as was already mentioned. Then check the temp and RH and see if they are where you want them. I have already learned from this mistake just in the last couple of months. I know it is frustrating to know that things aren't exactly where you would like them, but constantly checking your humi and making adjustments is not going to help your situation any. Make an adjustment and give it a few days...then see where you stand and make another adjustment if necessary. JMHO

Search for the salt test instructions here and do it. Then trust that you are right on after adjusting your hydrometer. Then open it for a cigar when needed. If you have big temp fluctuations that will cause changes in RH. I recommend putting it an area that maintains a relatively constant temp and out of sunlight. Let us know how it goes.

Update; Ok. So I have calmed myself, slapped my hand a few times when I have wanted to look....but I have been able to bring the RH back up according to the COXL. I have purchased a digital xikar and am calibrating it now....it has taken 3 times so far to get it right, but I am hoping this one sticks at 75. (should it be that off?) At first it read 67, then it did read 75 but would not reset to finish the calibration, so now round 3.

But I will update what the diff is between the xikar and the CO. I am sure it is not going to be dramatic and be the same as everyone else...but all I know is that my humi is packed and when I was walking through costco the other day, a cooler caught the corner of my eye.....but my gf would still kill me :D

I had a lot of trouble keeping a constant humidity with my smaller desktop at first (it holds roughly 40 sticks). I found that it was mainly because I would open the humidor multiple times every day--even opening it once a day was a little too much.

Just be patient. When salt testing or calibrating, allow at least 24-36 hours (I'd say wait 48 hours just to be sure) for it to hit 75%.

I was just going to update. I have salt tested the Xikar humidifier a couple times. Each time allowing more than 8 hours with it only reach 72% 70degrees at the most. The most recent I gave it a day and it landed at 71%, so I reset it to 75% to calibrate it and went with it. It has only been a couple hours in the humi and I was going to go with it. If I need to resalt and wait till it hits 75, then so be it I will.

Salt test it for at least 24 - 48 hours. Eight hours is not enough.

This is starting to remind me of BillClinton..... Without the novels for posts...
