I haven't seen this anywhere yet, so if its been posted before, I'm sorry. I would support this tax far over the Senate proposed tax.

The House Ways & Means Committee is set to unveil its own, less taxing, proposition for funding the Children's Health Care Initiative.

The plan, scheduled for markup on Thursday, would call for an increase in the federal excise tax on large cigars to 44.63 percent of the manufacturer's or importer's sales price, according to the Cigar Association of America, compared to 55.3 percent for the Senate. The big difference, however, is in the cap: the much-criticized Senate bill calls for a $10 cap, while this House bill would have a cap of $1. The current cap is just under five cents.

The House bill also does not have a floor tax on cigar inventory.

This sucks too....so much for the American way. Cigar smokers should not be responsible for socialist health care. I call foul....Time to gear up and write members of Congress.

I predict some overseas internet based cigar sellers are going to get rich.

Adding a buck to a premium cigar is a lot, but it isn't the end of the world. I'm a reformed cigarette smoker, and I was paying $1.99 a pack when I first started smoking 15 years ago. When I quit, I was paying over $5.00 a pack. The tax increase was 90% of that increase. So in 15 years cigarette tax went up over $2.00 a pack.

Cigars weren't effected by most of this taxation, and with my luck, the taxes are following me from cigs to fine cigars..

So from my viewpoint, I think the taxation is wrong and won't go to the funds its supposed to go, but this option is far better than the other.

Sorry to jinx you guys by leaving cigs and joining here. ???
