Hmmm ... did I just make a mistake

Hey gents,

I think I may have just made a big mistake. My parents re-carpeted their house this week, and they had a large chunk left over. They gave it to me to put in my garage/office, which I happily accepted. So, after some new paint, I put the carpet and padding down and replaced my desk. Then it dawned on me ... am I just going to make this carpet reek of stale smoke? I'm having second thoughts about this whole thing, even though it does make it more comfortable in here. Here's a quick snapshot I took with my phone.

Between the damage the chair will do, the normal wear and tear on it over time and you are worried about the smoke on the carpet. If you can open the window, I'd re-arrange the room so the desk is closer to the window. That would help with the paint being coated from the cigar smoke and carpet. Plus put something under the chair like a rubber mat which will help keep the wheels from shredding the carpet. :p

Man, it's so comfy in here, I hate to get rid of the carpet. Guess I should have thought things through

Loren - Haha, yeah I can see your point! I am just worried about my kids, they sometimes like to watch cartoons on Youtube on my second monitor, and I didn't want the smokey remnants of my cigars to affect them. It was fine with the cement carpet, but I was just about to light one up when I had second thoughts.

Thanks gentlemen, I guess I knew the answer before asking. Shucks.

You can get this... http://www.lampeberger.us/lampe-berger-official-website-luxury-fragrances-for-the-home

It really helps with the smoke. If you haven't heard of them already. I can attest its a big plus and it would probably help with the carpet situation. No idea if it will help other than to ease the smoke smell.

If you're just going to rip the carpet up and throw it away, you might as well go ahead and leave it. At least you can enjoy if for a little while. Then, when/if it starts to stink, rip it up and toss it. But no sense in throwing it away prematurely because one day it may stink.

Is the carpet Scotch-Guarded or have some kind of chemical to protect against stains and odors? It might help a little, but carpet is very good at holding odors.

Looks good otherwise. My garage is a cluttered and salty mess compared to yours

A few pumps of febreeze after a smoke might help.

I have always wanted to measure the weight of toilet paper too!

Let's see, chemicals from cleaners for the kid's...or stale smoke....hmmmm? ???

At this point, leave it in and see what happens.

You can also get a hepa air purifier (with carbon filter) to help with the smoke...but yea, there will be some odor.

I would be concerned with the smoke degradation on your clubs. Prolonged exposure to smoke will loosen the glues used to attach the heads on your driver, woods and utility clubs.

So does constantly dropping your shoulders.

Haha, I love you guys. I hadn't visited this thread in a couple of days (bogged down with work). Well, for an update, I've smoked 3 cigars or so since putting the carpet in, and it still smells new. I keep the garage door and the side door cracked for steady airflow.

My clubs love the smoke. They tend to shank and pull shots if I don't give them their fair share.

We have this pet carpet odor spray with enzymes. It takes all stains and odor out so that they dont continue to have accidents in the same spot on the rug. Wonder if it also might help with smoke odor? I'm pretty sure you can also add it to any carpet cleaning steamer.

If you can, as much as possible, smoke outside so that the smell won't stick on your clothes as well as the carpet. Or you may open the window so you could blow it off outside. Just make sure that the direction of the air is not towards your room (inside). Use air freshener.

Have your carpet cleaned weekly also so that your kids would be free from the smell that may add up.
