Tonight I tried a Hemingway Classic in natural wrapper that had been calling my humidor home. The Classic has a Cameroon wrapper, was not very oily, and easily passed the pinch test. The first thing that interested me in this one was the prelight smell. The smell was strong and smelled like raisins/black cherries (which is the closest thing I can compare that tobacco smell to).
Lighting was great, with no lopsidedness or burnouts. The first 3 inches of the cigar had a delicious taste, slight aftertaste, and was enjoyable. However, after those first 3, the taste mellowed out and lost its appeal to me. I continued to smoke it until the last 1/2 inch, but never regained the original taste or appeal. In the Hemingway line, I have also tried the Short Story, which is one of my favorite quicker smokes, but this one did not leave the same impression on me.
Despite this one getting high reviews from others and also the magazines, my experience was not good enough to recommend it to others. However, for those who like shorter smokes, I highly recommend the short story, as the taste is great from start to finish.
