I am out of ideas and figured it was time to break down and ask the experts.

A few weeks ago I was walking around the local Meg-Lo-Mart and found a nice locking tupperware that would be perfect for a tupperdor. I brought it home and in my lazyness it sat for a few days. One day while cleaning up I threw some cutters, 2 spanish cedar blocks, some matches and such inside. I also threw in (without thinking) a half full, open bag of 70% humidiity beads and sealed the sucker closed.

Time goes by..1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks... etc...

I find the time capsule and when I opened it a wonderful greenish-black mold covered everything. After tossing out the crap I have 2 issues.

1. My beads while not moldy anymore stink like an old musty cellar. Can figure out how to get the smell to be gone. I tried leaving them out in a bowl, rehydrating, dehydrating, yelling at them, pointing in an aggressive tone and throwing some away so the others can see. Are they salvageable?

2. My tupperdor (against my wife's wishes) went into the dishwasher for a few cycles and sat for a few days with baking soda but still stinks like an old folks home. I wouldn't dare put any sticks inside. Anything that tastes like this smells would make me gag. So, there are 2 sticks (Pirates Gold in case you are interested) in there now, purely for science reasons  But, is there a way to get this smell out of the plastic? Or is this tupperdor destined to hold small screws in the garage?

This is depressing...

Toss it and start over...

I'm confused as to what would cause the mold, though...

I think it was the humidity beads, but I am not sure. Something brought out a NASTY, chunky, green-black mold.

Humidity beads cannot create mold, they can only provide a wonderful enviroment for mold to grow in. If the tupperdor wasn't clean, or if the objects you put in were dirty, then you will have a nasty mold problem.

He's right toss it all and just put it down as "lesson learned". Plastic absorbs odors that do not come out.

My primary fermenting bucket for making wine is a good example. That thing stinks to high hell to me...... that fermenting grape smell is always present no matter how much I clean it .
Cigars are a whole different ball game though. You don't want them smelling like old moldy people.

Retire the the tupper from cigar service. Start over.

Your cigar terrarium got to sufficient humidity AND temperature to spur the growth of any mold spores that were on your items.

Wilkey

Start fresh! Buy a new Tupperdor. But clean it very thoroughly. And open it at least once a week for a few minutes to allow an exchange of fresh air.
