Hello,

I need help from the experts please! I've been a cigar smoker for some time, but I've always just had a couple on hand, never a humidor or anything. I recently inhereted a humidor full of fantactic and very rested smokes from my late grandfather -- however the humidor is extremely neglected. The cedar is VERY dry, and the cigars are also extremely dry. I do not see any signs of bugs or etc, but they are very...crunchy.

What is the proper process for restoring the humidor and the cigars? It just has a cheap-o foam disk inside it, so if there are better options link them up and i'll be sure to use them. There's about 40 cigars in the humidor, about 30 ISOMs and 10 high-ends.

Thanks for any help,
Matt

It sounds like you need to chunk those cigars and wipe down the humidor with distiller water. Leave a bowl of distilled water in it for a couple of days. Then proceed with humidification via beads, etc. some pics of the humidor would be good to assess the state of it. These are purely suggestions based on my idea of the humidor at least being intact.

Above all else...read the rules of the forum first and post and introduction post in the proper place and let us know who you are.

I'm sorry, I will do this -- totally my bad.

So there's no way to salvage what's in the humidor once they are dry? What a bummer, i'll have to hold a small funeral..

There are ways but they typically don't work, and even if they do they won't be "top shelf" cigars anymore. We are just saying your better off to start fresh

Save the cigars for sentiment, but don't ever expect them to be what they were. Smoked a cigar that was from my Stepdaughter's birth on her sweet sixteen. It was neglected as well. Wasn't horrible, but I went into it with no expectation either. It was sentimental. Just slowly reintroduce the humidity to it first.

What the other guys said on getting the humidor back up to snuff.

The cigars might be salvageable- you never know, I'd save em, the humi might be toast. depends what its like after it gets humidified. Do what was suggested and see if it is warped after being moist. If you don't have a humi then I'd suggest going with a coolidor. search it- a good cheap investment.

The cigars "might" be salvageable, but you have to be committed because it is a very, very long process.
If you search on CP I know there is a thread or seven. Rod just gave someone instructions not too long ago.
If you can't find it let us know and we'll help.
Welcome aboard brother.
