I've been meaning to post this for a few days. I just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to David (aka Viper139) for hooking me up with these beads. I have been using the standard black circular humidifier in my desktop humidor for a month now, and the humidity was always hovering between 53-55%.

So I purchased the 65% humidity beads from David's store (Heartfelt Industries) and they arrived three days later in my mailbox. He assisted me in the proper way to fill these up, and now 24 hours later, the humidor is at a nice, steady 65%!

I just wanted to thank him and give a little praise for his store in case anyone else is considering doing business with him. I have no complaints.

Yep... He is one of the good guys for sure!!!
As long as he quits sending me other peoples orders!!! ;) ;) ;)

I read somewhere that the heartfelt tubes come "pre-loaded". Is this true? I'm also wondering the proper way of "charging" the heartfelt tubes (ie, 4oz tube)? Do the beads come out, or do you pour distilled into the tube?

mr.mac :D

I think if you open it and take them out it will make a big mess. I tried opening one end and putting in water on the top but some of the beads spilled out. They fill it all the way to the top. Now I just use one of those little water droppers I got with a humidor and put the water in through the holds in the tube. Works fine!

Place an open container of distilled water next to the tube in a sealed container. No need to open the tube. The beads will absorb (charge) the moisture required. If you dump the tube in water the beads will "explode" or "shatter" so do not apply moisture by dumping water in. If you must use a spray bottle with a fine mist to charge. Some of the beads should be clear and some white not all clear or all white.

About how long does it take for them to charge this way? Also do you remeber if the tube came charged?

mr.mac

Viper is good people....I second your recommendation of heartfelt industries :)

Cant answer the first question but the for the second one mine did not come charged.

I just charged my Viper beads this morning. Here is what I do, which was also recommended by Viper.

I put the tube on a dinner plate, and then spray the tube down with distilled water from a water bottle. I then let it sit there for about 30 minutes or so, and when I came back, most of the beads were clear (not white......white means they are not hydrated).

They recommend that you only hydrate about 75-80% of the beads to allow for humidity fluctuations, but I end up getting almost all of them pretty clear. You will have to gauge what works for you.

Hope that helps.

Hey... not to get off topic, but can someone help me with this picture problem I'm having in my signiture. I can't find where to delete the picture so that I can resize it. Sorry about that!

mr.mac

I tried edit signature, but I can't find where to actually apply the new signature!

Yes that does help. I'm expecting a 4oz tube by the end of the week... although my humi is now holding at 70/71. I would like the rh a little lower and so I'm hoping that the beads will help with that.

Again... sorry about the HUGE image that I had posted. I'm a little slow sometimes! :D

mr.mac

Well keep in mind that if you want it lower, then you won't want to fill the beads too much with water, or else it will add more humidity to the environment. The wonderful thing about the beads is that they can both add and take away humidity.....so if you put the uncharged beads straight into your humidor, it should actually LOWER the humidity because it will begin to absorb some of that 70% which it's currently at.

Absolutely correct...if your goal is to remove moisture from the humidor just put the tube in as you receive it. The beads are not charged when they are shipped so that is optimal for you. When they become completely clear jsut dry them out by using a blow dryer on the tube until the beads are white again.

Stogiefarts gave the easiest and quickest way to charge the beads in a post above, using the spray bottle very rarely cracks the beads.

Viper,

Based on the recommendations of the fine folks on this forum, I plan on buying some humidity beads from your site.

Question: I have a 30 bottle haier wine cooler, that currently holds a few wine bottles and a few cigars. What would be the appropriate amount of beads to purchase? Would you recommend the beads or the tubes? I am leaning towards a few tubes vs. say a pound of beads, because I think that I would prefer them to be enclosed. Your thoughts?

Also, would you recommend beads in different locations for this type of cooler. Perhaps some up top and some at the bottom to maintain a consistent RH?

Thanks for the feedback. I look forward to working with you.

Can you give me the interior dimensions fo your Haier?

I measured the interior roughly this morning. 33 inches tall X 17 inches wide X 16 inches deep. Note, this is the interior as requested, not the exterior. Just wanted to be clear. Thanks,

That space calculates out to just over a pound of beads. What I would recommend since this is a wine fridge is at least 1 1/2 pounds of beads, 2 pounds would be better. The cooling cycle puts more stress on keeping the rh stabile than a regular humidor, the extra beads will help stabilize the rh after the cooling cycle shuts off.

What containers you use, either mesh bags or tubes, is not as important as being sure you distribute the beads around the cooler. For example: three 1/2 pound mesh bags, one in the top of the cooler, one in the middle and one toward the bottom. You can do the same thing with tubes.

David

That sounds perfect. I will be making a purchase later tonight.

One worry: The wine cooler creates condensation that runs down the back wall into a reservoir. Obviously this is light, but it is also not distilled water. Will this moisture damage the beads like tap water would?

Thanks,

OK Viper,

I bought 2 pounds of 65% RH humidity beads, 1 1 pound mesh bag, 2 1/2 pound mesh bags, 1 blue rhino torch lighter, and an adjustable digital hygrometer/thermometer.

Thanks for the advice and good prices!
