Having too many humidification devices in your humidor?

Hello all!

Im relatively new to the cigar world but I have already enjoyed many great times over many great cigars! I have a medium sized 100 count humidor with a tray on top and the main storage area below (I only have about 40 cigars in the humidor). The humidor came with two traditional rectangular humidifiers that attached the the lid, I then added a dry-mistat tube to the top and another in the bottom. What I began to realize is that my cigars up top were getting close to 80% humidity while the bottom was a perfect 70%. My good cigars are kept on the bottom and I had some cheap smokes on top that started to split and crack. Is this because I had too many humidification devices so close to the top tray? I just took out the two rectangular humidifiers, and left the drymistat tubes in there. So far it looks like its helping.

Can anyone chime in on this?

Thank you,

Chris

Yep to many humidifiers... Why don't you go to the introduction forum and introduce yourself, read the rules, and if you haven't already done so, fill out your profile...

I think someone needs to put this in a sig tag line...

Definitely too many humidification devices. Instead of using the humidifiers that came with the humidor and the drymistat tubes, you may want to check out RH beads. I think they are more effective. I used them in my own humidors.

Chris, I see this is your first post here. We have rules here where we ask new users to give us an intro. Please go to that forum, post an intro and read all the red lettering on top. If you abide by those rules you will be fine here.
