A couple weeks back, Mrepp was kind enough to do a box split of these smokes. I had never heard of them before, but having yet to find a Pepin I do not like, I thought I'd give it a shot. Then when I found out the filler was 70% ligero, that sealed the deal. I was definitely interested.
Well, the sticks arrived last week, and being the impatient child that I am, I could not wait any longer to try one out.
I brought one with me to work last night, so sorry there's no pictures.
As is my usual custom, about 1 am, I took the cigar out and clipped it. Pre-light draw was a little loose, and the cigar seemed kind of soft to the touch. Probably the result of me being impatient and not giving it any time to rest. Grabbed my light, and toasted the foot. A little slow to light, I started to draw, and IMMEDIATELY I could taste the ligero. My first real draw on the cigar, and my mouth was tingling. I was definitely pleased.
The draw was not as loose as I had originally thought. Still a little looser than I usually like, but nothing too bad. Each draw produced tons of smoke, another plus. Just good, rich, thick tobacco flavor throughout the whole smoke. The only downside was I had some problems keeping it lit. I was trying to find the line between letting it rest between draws, and drawing often enough to keep it lit. I had to relight it two more times. I'm guessing if I had let this rest like I should have, this would not be as much a problem.
I smoked it down to about an inch to an inch and a half. It was drizzling outside the entire time, and right around now the rain was starting to pick up. Instead of relighting and trying to finish it up, I decided to put it down here, and head back in.
Definitely full bodied. Definitely not for the beginner. And definitely looking forward to smoking one of these in a few months after it has had a little time to rest.
