82*F, sunny clear and slightly humid, enjoyable day when not in direct sun.
(excuse the stella glass, it is not the right brand or shape of glass for the weinhenstephaner, but i could care less since it was ice cold and refreshing )
Description -
light brown, almost tan wrapper, tissue paper like feel.
gossamer, few fine veins, but not really noticeable.
very fragile and delicate wrapper, some visible oils.
pretty firm throughout, slight knot near the band, nothing major.
looks classy, however churchill vitola is not my favorite to be honest.
Pre- Light Aroma -
wrapper has faint smells of peppercorns mixed with a heavy dose of manure and earth, enticing.
foot smells stronger, aromas of barnyard, hay, paper mache and spice.
Initial Draw - 1:10pm
medium bordering on medium-light body.
burn seems good, oils coming out near burn line.
nutty flavor mixed with coffee for first 2 puffs.
smoke smells of very sharp burning smoke aroma, not much more to it.
First Third - 1:15pm
tastes of creamy nuts, not strong like peanuts but more of an almost and neutral generic nut flavor.
sweet tobacco backbone, with hints of vanilla when i really try and taste the smoke.
moved up to medium in body.
only a medium amount of smoke produced, draw is ever so slightly tight.
mouth is salivating with smoke.
smoke through nose makes my eye water, completely unexpected due to gentle medium body and flavors.
Second Third - 1:48pm
ash is mottled like most cubans, but pretty white/light grey due to its age.
smoke is bracing through the nose, but not as bad as first third, has peppery overtones.
tasting liquorish instead of previous vanilla flavors.
creaminess is at the forefront, brings with it slightly rough but enjoyable tobacco and coffee flavors.
Final Third - 2:15pm
gets to full body, creaminess fades as pepperiness and strong coffee flavors take over.
unbearable through the nose, but thats not necessarily a bad thing.
in between puffs, it tastes as though ive been drinking some strong coffee, black no sugar or creamer.
alternate puffs bring out pepperiness and slight leather, reminiscent of a partagas/bolivar blend, very satisfying.
finishes off strong but balanced and fully interesting.
Finish - 2:24pm
after taste is almost coffee like, mixed with honey, very pleasant and long lasting.
