H. Upmann Coronas Major Tubo (ISOM)
Size: 5x 44 Eminentes
Strength: Medium - Full
I was gifted this cigar by a buddy, which immediately made me suspicious as he claimed it was a legit ISOM. After reading a lot here about ISOM's, I was fully aware that there are some really good looking fakes out there, and that the chance was high that this was a fake. I cracked open the tube to examine the cigar, and compared it to photos of a real one. After a great deal of dissection, I decided that this indeed was likely a legit ISOM. If it was a fake, it was a damn good one, in both taste and appearance! :sign:
Anyways, onward with the review! It was a muggy, humid day outside in overcast SoCal, and after a long day of busting my butt on chores, I decided it was time to take a break. I dug around in the humidor and decided that this Upmann was to be sacrificed to the fire gods. I had already examined it extensively as previously stated, but yet again I found myself looking over this stick. The wrapper was a soft milk chocolate color, with a silky smooth texture that was veiny. The foot was nicely bunched, and the cap of course featered a beautiful triple seam finish. On squeezing it, there was a slight springy feel to it, with no discernable hard or soft spots. On smelling the foot I found a nice, sweet tobacco aroma with something that reminded me of anise. Delicious!
I punched the cap and took the prelight draw, which left a salty taste on the lips, as well as that anise flavor. I then toasted the foot, took a nice, deep draw and was greeted by rich tobacco, woodiness, and a good black pepper spice on the back of the throat. The smoke and flavor were a good full body, with the smoke smelling very sweet and aromatic. The draw was slightly tight, but it actually worked well for this stick as it forced me to smoke it slow. The ash was a dark gray, not the bright white that I have seen on many fakes dissected here on these forums. This is definitely legit in my opinion!
This little guy is a nice spice bomb! The flavors were very consistent throughout, but not boring in the least. The burn stayed fairly straight, even though it wavered a little it self corrected nicely. This is a very good cigar! I would have to say I would definitely buy a few of these. I'd like to also note that it paired perfectly with a Newcastle Brown Ale.
