Cigar: H. Upmann Connoisseur No. 1
Origin: Cuba
Ring gauge: 48
Length: 5"
Box Code:Feb 04
Atmosphere: sitting on my patio outside in 50 degree weather
Beverage: sipping some Zaya Rum
Prelight:
Nice medium brown cigar with very few veins.
Smooth to the touch and nice amount of oils.
Construction was good from triple cap to foot.
Wrapper taste was very unflavorful
Aroma was very earthy with hints of fruit peeking thru.
Cut the cigar with the Xikar multitool
Torched the foot and enjoyed the earthy fruity smell emanate from it.
Light:
This cigar lit up wonderfully. And had quite an impressive draw. Didn’t have to work hard at all to get it lit.
Flavor was very Strong Tobacco. (Cuban twang) Which most would call it.
After the first inch it mellowed out a bit.
Nice earthy tastes mixed hints of fruit and wood very small hint of spice.
This cigar emitted nice volumes of thick smoke.
Midway the cigar became spicier with subtle hints of coffee. The cigar was staring to evolve and became very complex.
I stared to have different flavors trying to fight it out, flavors ranged from .earthy to coffee to spicy to stonrg raw tobacco and some sort of subtle fruity taste, which I can't yet, put my hand on. It smoked this way almost to the last inch.
Never once did it get harsh or burn hot. The ash seemed to hold very well. Great construction and nicely packed tobacco are probably the reason for this. At times the cigars seemed unrefined and in your face possibly due to its infancy. I can only imagine what a cple more yrs of age will do to refine these cigars.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a reasinably priced cigar and wants to see what the whole H.Upmann hoopla is all about. This is also a nice alternative to some of the other Hermosa #4's out there.
Great price
Great construction
Complex flavors
Excellent burn
Unrefined at times but definately a pleasure to smoke.
My overall smoking experience with this cigar would be a 7 out of 10.
