This cigar flat sucked. I've never had what some have coined a dog rocket. And I sure have never had a $10.00 dog rocket. I've had some passable smokes that weren't worth $10.00, but I've never had a smoke that I would pay someone $10.00 to turn back time so I never fired this smoke up. It was gifted to me, so I didn't pay for it. My friend loves them, so I won't hold it against him, but needless to say our tastes disagree.
The wrapper was a flat brown with prominent veins. The nose of the smoke was of limes and sugar. It sure smelled wonderful. The smoke had been damaged a bit at some point, with the foot having a break in the wrapper. I figured with a little smoking this would go away. The prelight draw was pretty bland. It tasted faintly of earth, but not much else if anything.
Upon the light of this smoke, there were thick volumes of white smoke. The first puff has a canvas and earth flavor that isn't very pleasant. There's an immediate subtle bitterness under the tongue. The nose of the smoke has an almost chemical aroma to it that smells very complex, but not very pleasant. The finish of every puff lingers of bitterness.
Into the end of the first third and this smoke has a chemical finish, like turpentine and pine needles. The burn has resolved the damage to the wrapper but is still burning pretty bad, so much so that even fixing it doesn't work for long. After forcing the first ash, the cherry is irregular and hard. I try to tap away the imperfect side of the ash but its like tapping a mallet.
At this point the smoke is too much to continue. The taste is of turpentint, pine needles, and bitterness. There is no enjoyment left, even after a purge under flame which brought a little warmth of flavor out for one and only one puff. Goodbye terrible smoke.
