I've had the Torpedo shape/size of these before, last year after picking some up for my secret santa package, and I loved them. Double D and I decided to spring on the CI special from a few weeks ago (15 Gurkha Class Regent Nepalese Warriors and 10 Gurkha Legend Aniversario) and after a week of letting them sit I decided to fire one up.
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro
Binder: Cameroon
Filler: Dominican long-leaf
Shape: Perfecto
Humi: 66°f / 65%RH
Food/Drink: Nothing / Cup of German coffee with sugar and cream
DD and I discussed the cigar band when they arrived and are both of the opinion that Gurkha, DCM and Opus X have some of the nicest bands, but a beautiful band does not make a great cigar, so on to the review.
I removed the band (real easy slip and slide to the top of the cigar) and I clipped it with my Xikar. The cigar is open both at the top and the bottom but the top hole is only around 3mm, this IMO leads to tar build-up and a bitter cigar so I decided to open it up to around 6/7mm to prevent it.
Nice draw and the pre-light taste was pleasant but not really "Write home about it" quality.
It lit easily and then it did what every perfecto I have had (including my WOANs and WOAMs) has done (and is one of the reasons I am not a huge fan of shaped cigars) it started to canoe.
I also have noticed that usually perfecto shaped cigars start bitter and this smoke was no exception.
The first 2 inches I had to keep touching the cigar up with my lighter and the taste was of good tobacco but on the bitter side, once the cigar hit the middle however it opened up and the bitterness went away. The burn problems also disappeared and I started to really enjoy it.
The legends are listed as a medium cigar and I agree, with undertones of leather and spice they are extremely enjoyable.
Onto the finish, there was no taste change once the cigar got past the 3 inch mark and it stayed the same until I decided to put it down. The ash was very flaky once I knocked it off but held its shape until I did.
Now for the last reason I personally avoid perfectos, by the time the cigar gets going good it starts to get warm in the hand, you are drawing a 60 gage burn through a 40 gage tip so it does make sense, but it leads to you putting the smoke down quite a bit sooner than you would with any other shape.
I did hold onto it until around the 1 and 1/2 mark before putting it down for good, but if it wasn't for the heat I probably would have tried to nub it.
So what did I think? As stated, I love the legends but if I was willing to drop over $200 on a box of legends, it would not be the perfectos. The unique shape makes them a looker in the humi, but the problems inherent in the shape makes them not worth the money in my opinion. I would rather have the Torpedoes any day of the week. Then again at the price we paid due to the CI special these were a steal.

P.S. The Gurkha Class Regent Nepalese Warriors are even better, I'll review one later.
P.P.S. Not having had one of the La Aurora Preferidos (so far) I would be interested if some one who has could tell me if they experienced the same problems as I had with the Legend's Perfecto, the shapes are almost the same as far as I can tell.
