I traveled to town to get a printer cartrage so decide to sample a Gurkha Masters select Robusto on my trip. This Gurkha was gifted to me as one of a 5 stick Gurkha sample sent to me to evaluate the line. I have had them for several weeks so they have stablized in my 65% igloodor from the trip.
Not much to mention on the appearance so lets light this sucker up. I cut the end with my trusty punch cutter. I noted the cap must have been on the thin or dry side as it gave way (split) slightly after my cut but nothing really drastic worth cutting my final score.
After lighting the cigar with my double flame torch the first thought was what kinda crap is this. Initial comparison thoughts went to a really bad Domestic brand owned by that conglomerate we all know.
2 inches into it, things mellowed out. Smoke was a deep blue and an uneven ash burn was evident but it did equal out slightly as things progressed.
At this 2 inch point I noted a hint of vanilla that was more defined at times. (Did I really say that ??? Must be developing my tasting skills
At this point in the cigar I was well into my smoke (2-3") and things became quite nice considering the drastic beginning.
22 miles down the road, I was at my destination and set the cigar on the car roof (hate to catch my car on fire as my ashtray was replaced by a Ham radio) and departed into Staples for my color cartridge. Back in 10 minutes and the cigar was gone!!! Ok I did find it rolling across the parkinglot...a quick jump in the car and I was on the other side of the parkinglot and back in business. Cigar was still in good shap and it was relit to continue my venture.
Another inch into it I began to note hints of pepper and Chocolate as I started to end the journey. A few more miles down the road and this nasty taste hit me and the cigar flew out the window with more lenght than usual and a vocal discust from me.
I might mention the draw was very nice and construction was stable throughout the cigar.
While the middle was pleasant, the start and finish really cuts into the score. I give it a generous 84 with cuts due to the start and finish. The middle was maybe a 87.
One more Gurkha to go and I will report on the entire 5 stick lineup in a comparison report.
