Brand / Specs:
Gurkha Centurian (6.0” x 60)
Connecticut wrapper, Honduras
Bottom line: Very relaxing, enjoyable smoke. Easy to have and smoke “in the background”; didn’t require conscious thought to smoke or keep lit. Great aroma and taste through the end. Allowed for full enjoyment of surroundings with no worries as to condition of cigar. Wind had no noticeable effect on burn. 90-ish minute smoke time. Looking forward to the next one.
Smoking Conditions: Titans vs. Green Bay. Game projected on outdoor screen. Low physical activity (reaching for drink, yelling at projection. Hey, it helps!). Mid/High 70’sF temp with loud, enthusiastic conversation all around. Ambient humidity approx. 60%.
Narrative: Stick had dry, smooth wrapper, with minimal veins. Easy, neutral-flavored draw unlit; tasted like it smelled. Lit easily, with minimal smoke. Initially had a mild / medium flavor, with a spicy aftertaste that mellowed quickly to a faint sweet taste. Draw was smooth, with good smoke during puff. 45 minutes in, ash was solid with a light gray appearance (no dark “tree” rings.) Wrapper had a dry, silky feel to it. Smoke felt “velvety” during draw and holding, with no bitterness or harshness. Had a sensation of cooling, vice warming while drawing smoke in. Aroma smelled great! Of note, a drink was spilled, I jerked on instinct to catch it (failed) and ash stayed intact. Noticed a spicy / peppery taste on draw again. Ash remained intact for a full third of the smoke, 55 minutes in (2355L), and kept its perfect pre-burn shape. Ash dropped at 58 minutes. Convex coal, with a brief increase in self-emitting smoke. By 1 ½ hours, draw had tightened slightly (felt wetter), and the temp of the smoke had increased. No surprise there. Smoke came to an end, Titans won in overtime and I began the long evening of watching my Cowboys look like their own cheerleaders.
I loved the smoke, and am ready for another just as soon as I have another night away from the salt mine!
