First Review by a noo-b.
Long time lurker here looking to become more active in the sharing of my admittingly limited knowledge with others who share a similar interest in the human testing of fine tabacco research, to which I have volunteered my self a lab rat.
Well here goes. Wish I had taken pics. to post but, will definitely try in future reviews.
Now to set the stage. Sat night, Wifes inside sharing a bottle of vino, my friend and I escape to my back porch to partake in a heated discussion revolving around my beloved red Sox and his Beloved NY Yankees now, to keep us from coming to blows I had provided us with a fine cigar and some top shelf booze in an attempt to keep the conversation somewhat civilized.
These two peacemakers included the Gurkha Legend Torpedo, 6.5 x 53, and a glass of Don Julio 1942 Tequila. Not sure if it was the chicken or the egg but, what a great combination. The spiciness from the gurkha and the sharp lime / honey bite from the tequila really was a superb pairing. Infact, our conversations rountinely shifted to what an absolutely phenomenal pairing these two were and what a gorgeaous night it was. Let me just say my new found friends that night life was good... life was very good!!
The formal review from Gurkha:
The filler for this beauty is all Dominican. The Cameroon binder bestows a subtle spiciness. Creating the crowning touch is the sumptuous 8 year old Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper. This cigar is dark, oily, and luxurious. The result is a medium to full-bodied cigar with a broad palate of rich, elegant flavors. The band is a supreme work of art. Available only through selected retailers
My Review:
The wrapper was dark and oily as mentioned and prelight aromoas of coffe and dark earth were very pronounced. The draw was near flawless and burn was uniform and true signalling the pride and effort that went into constructing this fine cigar. As far as Taste; I noticed definite spice and a dark coffee like flavor with a slight peppery finish. Smoke was charcoal white thick and billowy, (is that a word?), oh well. Overall I would say that this cigar was a solid 8 out of 10 and more than worth the $8 bounty that it cost.
This was part of a box split so I will have the opportunity to follow its aging and maturation.
I hope you all enjoyed my first review as much as I enjoyed posting it.
Any and all recomendations / comments on the review / cigar will be duely noted for future reference.
Thanks again to all. I hope to not remain a stranger for long.
Best,
Gregg
