In the humidor I have the two humidors inside and i have them laying on the actual wood and i noticed that some green dust has formed around it one day when i decided to recharge them because the ph has dropped. A little of it was in the crevices of the humidors and I was wondering what could cause this? When I get home I will try to take a picture of it. Do you think water getting into the wood from the humidors could cause this? Or that maybe it was holding too much water?

Welcome to CP from IN

You should properly introduce yourself and fill out your profile.. There are alot of great people here and they will help you. We want to know about yourself as well. Also use the SEARCH function as many questions (which may include this) has already been addressed.

Maybe just dust from the oasis in your humidifiers. A picture would help.

Yeah the green oasis foam leaves green dust as it deteriorates.

If its powder it is probably that, mold is moist.

And if it is powder, lol you waited a tad long to add water :p

Ditto, also mold is fuzzy and three dimensional.

If it is mold, what would cause it?

Here you go...

Mold
Bright marks appearing on the cigars can basically have two causes. If the marks are light gray in color, dusty and can be easily wiped off with a cloth then the spots are only a result of the normal aging process of the cigars, which does not impair the taste of the cigars.
If however the spots are crusty and blue-green in color then the cigars are infected by mold. Mold may form if cigars are stored at excessively high humidity levels. In such cases the infected cigars must be removed and the humidor should be cleaned carefully with a dry cloth. The humidifier should be cleaned carefully with warm water and if there is mold on the humidifier, the humidifier should be replaced. Under no circumstances should the infected cigars be put back into the clean humidor.

Oh boy..that doesnt sound too good. I'll take pictures when I get home....if it is indeed mold I guess this would be a good excuse to order a puck.

Your best bet is to probably wipe the residue off and see if it comes back. If it does then RH is too high. Keep a close eye...

Get a puck or get some beads and BAM! No more worries!

And if it is mold... open your humi up more often to let in fresh air :)

im home now and i wiped the humidor thorough with two different clothes. I opened one of humidifers and i saw a little mold so i threw it away. I inspected my cigars and my fonseca had that whitish mold on itself. So either it caused it or my hydrometer isnt reading properly. I took pics but in posting from a psp so i will show you all them in a few.

thanks a lot guys

Thanks again guys.

I'd order two of these from viper for your big humidor...

I have one in my 120 count and could not be happier with it.

Here is the link.

*edit* And for goodness sakes get a digital hydrometer! You can trust most analoges as far as you can spit in the wind.

Ouch, kinda pricey

Not really... since its a one time buy for the life of your humidor.

and no mold and no RH% Stress (if you follow viper's easy instructions).

You could buy the cheaper plastic containers or just buy beads and make your own. But your humidor has the fittings for the aluminum-boxes.

And for me its also about the looks.

Not to impress others when they look in my humidor, but to please myself when I look in. We humans are visual creatures, and the aluminum-box is definitely eye-candy.

And considering how nice of a Humidor you purchased for yourself when you could have easily went for a much cheaper Coolidor. I'm thinking your the same way.
