The Ashton rep hosted a tasting at my local B&M/cigar lounge, Tobacco World, with a table piled high with Ashton VSG, San Cristobal, and La Aroma de Cuba selections . . . and cracked bottles of Balvenie Caribbean Cask, Oban 14, and Zaya rum to go with the smokes.

Couldn't resist 20% off a box of my beloved San Cristobal Fabulosos, especially when he threw in 10 (count 'em, 10!) free LADC Mi Amor Reserva churchills and 10 door prize raffle tickets for buying the box . . . one of which got me a three-pack LADC sampler in the first draw.  :D

Good time, great people, awesome cigars.

Sounds like a good time, and it sounds like you scored some deals.  J

I have never attended an event before.  Have you attended many?  Is there any etiquette involved with an event?  A shop near my office is having a Padron event in December.  I want to attend, but just am curious if there is anything I should be aware of going into it.  Dos and Don’ts?  I have never been to this shop before, but found it while I was googling shops in my area.  My plan is to go there a time or two before the event so my face is not a complete stranger.  When looking at events this place has held and other shops as well, it appears like there is always some sort of special or deals for the event.  I do not have a problem with purchasing a box of Padrons.  They are current cigar of choice.  Thanks for any insight you may provide.

I am sure it will be a good time.  My work and family schedule is crazy during the week.  I know it is only an hour away, but impossible for me to get out of work at a respectable time.  Is your local shop Davidus?  I have never been there before.  Would you like to get together sometime when I head out west for a smoke?  Here is the shop that is having the Padron event:

Tons of them, going back to about 12 years or so.  I've been a regular at Tobacco World through three locations and two owners, and they've always tried to do a lot of events---Ashton, Rocky, Tatuaje, even Kinky Friedman.  ;)

I suppose etiquette varies by shop and by vendor, but it's always good form to at least try the vendor's line---there's been more than one tasting where I smoked one of the event cigars, then went to the humidor to get myself a San Cristobal right afterward, though, and no one's minded in the least.

When a favorite brand does an event I always buy a box, but not everyone does.  At least a fiver is polite, I suppose---the Ashton event was set up "buy 3, 1 free, buy 5, 2 free, buy a box, 5 free, 10 raffle tickets, and a T-shirt."  I got 10 cigars because they didn't have the T-shirt in "grown up sizes."

No events here in Lexington. The local shop isn't even open past 7pm or on Sunday's. :(

You should talk to them, Chief.  Somebody is selling them cigars, after all.  It's the reps who come in to do the events---if the local shop does good volume, all it really takes is scheduling and a large order to get an event.  I think Tobacco World bought about 50 boxes across three lines to get an Ashton event, but they know they'll sell every last stick sooner rather than later.  They do a BIG business in VSG and San Cristobal.

I run a xxx shirt...

Hate not getting free shirts....lol

Same here, XXXL  . . . XXXLT if it has long sleeves.  They never bring anything over XXL and sometimes not even over XL.  :(

It was a great T-shirt, too---the Gonzales flag (from the Texas war of independence) with an Ashton cigar instead of a cannon and "Come And Taste It" instead of "take it." Real Texania, that.  But it wasn't $40 great, lol, and the extra fiver has to be worth at least that.
