The ones you smoke yourself. Rely on CA to get you started. After that, base it off of you smoking what you know.

Tony, I don't think you are getting the point of what most of us were saying. We are not saying that you can't use CA to get you started. Use it as a guide to start looking for things to smoke. However, don't rely on it to tell you what is good and not good. Don't think an 80 rated smoke is inferior to a 90 rated smoke just because they say it is.

For example, in one of the last 2 issues, the Oliva O Classic Robusto rated a 92, the highest in the magazine. It rated above several Habanos and I believe the Opus. Now, I like Oliva cigars, but I've smoked this particular cigar and am not impressed. It does not hold a candle to many of the cigars it was rated above. Now, someone elses palate might disagree with me. And that's fine...everyone has their own tastes.

All we're saying is...make up your own mind.

As for great cigars that have not been rated...the line of La Luna cigars come to mind. If they have been rated, it has not been for years. Fantastic, well-made cigars. I'm sure there are many more, but CA has rated a lot of cigars over the 10+ years of its publication...not inclined to think that hard right now.

Wow, and the resident La Luna Whore didn't have to come out and say it. But yeah, those are fantastic!

As for the ratings, in the most recent issue you had the following:

Cuba: Cohiba Robusto - 87
Cuba: Bolivar Belicoso Fino - 83

D.R.: Partagas Spanish Rosado Ramon y Ramon - 88

This is not a knock on the Partagas, but those are two of my all-time favorite cigars. This month they scored bad. Does that mean I should get rid of my Cohibas and Boli's?

In my case I know I started off taking recommendations from CA. Eventually after landing here and allowing those that came before me to guide me along, I found what cigars I did and did not like without having to believe every word in CA.

CA is good for finding smokes that maybe you didn't know were out there. Or for giving you an idea of the quality of a smoke that you otherwise may not have tried.

But, it would be a very bad practice to use CA as a hard-line reference. There have been suspicions about how certain cigars score very high ratings (particularly from companies with full page ads in CA) while significantly "better" cigars don't for a very long time.

IMO, you can gather much better information on the quality and value of a cigar by simply doing a bit of research on the net. By doing this you are able to draw from the experiences of several contibutors as opposed to CA exclusively.

..so where do you find the La Lunas? I've searched several online places, and nobody lists them, unless they are under a different name?

They hide them quite stealthily at this link

a recent la luna post here on CP.

You may still be able to get that price, I'm not sure. If I recall correctly, Gael is in Honduras right now. He should be back soon. You may be able to order some stuff anyway.

Not sure whether you can get that price as everything has been sold out(as it was posted by Gael).
On another forum I read that Gael is coming back on August,4.
But that might be as well just a rumors.
Hopefully next LaLuna lines will be for sale.
