Picked this one up with a sampler pack, just to try out some different 'yard gar flavors.
Temperature: 81 degrees Fahrenheit
Ambient RH: 19%
Sunny, high clouds.
Wind from the SE at 4mph
Beverage: Becks NA
This cigar has a nice deep medium brown wrapper with prominent veins and a nice toothy texture and a very light sheen. Very pleasant visually though not without some imperfections. The cap tasted of the familiar dark-wrapper tang that shows up in many maduros.
Clipped with guillotine cutters, just barely cut anything off.
Pre-lit draw was excellent, not lose, not tight. The cigar felt firm but with enough sponginess to give confidence this cigar has been properly humidified. The foot smelled terrific, not bland but very aromatic tobacco.
First Third
The cigar started out with a very pleasant sweet tobacco flavor with a hint of something that made me think "fried egg sandwich." There was a touch is pepper and full, creamy smoke. The ash was a mottled black and white, slightly flaky and held for about 1". The burn was uneven but self corrected.
Second Third
The middle transitioned out of any pepper and continued the pleasant, light tobacco notes but with a hint of nutmeg or perhaps cloves, very nice tasting but dampened with a hint of bitterness on the back of the tongue. The burn corrected and then reverted. The ash continued to be quite flaky and didn't hold very long so I ashed this section more aggressively that I prefer. Towards the end of the third I began picking up a a slight tanginess.
Final Third
The smoke thinned out some and the tobacco began to lose complexity though still pleasant with a subtle grassy sweetness that diminished towards the end. The draw also began to get slightly hot so shorter draws were necessary. I still kept being reminded of fried egg sandwich, with the toasted wheat and fried egg both being noticeable. I smoked it down to about two inches when the cigar began to get quite hot and a sliver of ammonia became detectable.
At $10/ea in a fiver from CI, I can't recommend this cigar. Even a box of 20 on sale at $100 might not be quite the price point I'd pay for this one. It was pretty good and I'd be happy to be handed one at a herf but thats about it.
