I have never had Scotch with a cigar. I can count on 2 hands the amount of time I have had Scotch period. I have had some Glenfiddich & Some Balvenie 15 yr I think. They were good I guess. What are some good ones to try for an undeveloped palate that will not turn me off? BTW...what is Peat? I hear people say that some scotch has a lot of peat.(Not Mr.Peat :D )

There's a reason he calls himself Mr. PEAT. :whistling:

Excellent resource! It answered many other questions I had. I'd say I'd be willing to spend up to $40 on a bottle considering I don't drink too much and it should last me some time.

If you are new to scotch drinking I would stay away from peaty scotches. They have a very strong mossy/oily flavor that you have to build up to.

I would recommend either Cragganmore of Glenmorangie.

I would second the Glenmorangie. The Sherry Wood bottle is great, but you are not likely to find it for $40.

Thanks, I try to provide some useful info when I can.

I like to recommend the Balvenie DoubleWood as a starter single malt. Tamdhu is another if you can find it in your area. Both should be near $40. If you can move up to $50 then the Johnnie Walker Green Label is a winner at that price point.

Glenlivet 12yo is a great place to start IMO. A good base by which to compare other single malts. A classic scotch that's easy to drink and fits your budget.

The Glenfiddich I tried tasted like grass if I remember correctly. It was a while a go. Not bad but very grassy. I assume this taste is peat?

Think edible smoke and that would be peat.

I just tried scotch for the first time recently and I really enjoy the bottle of Glenlivit 12 yo. I drink it warm with a splash of water. Very good and smooth.
