Whats a good sweet pipe tabacoo. What about a vanilla or choclate. I am very new to pipes the ones sent with the pipe are ok. I just want to feel the pipe thing out before i drop 100 plus on a pipe.

I don't come around here often but I do monitor this thread. First, welcome to the world of pipes and pipe tobaccos.
A great source for information on blends is http://www.tobaccoreviews.com. Butternut Burley or Trout Stream are great blends to start with, a web search will show you where they can be found.
Second, "...drop 100 plus on a pipe." is absolutely unnecessary. Savinelli's can be found for much less than that, and they are generally great smokers. Do a search for "Savinelli Naturals" and you can find a great smoking piper for around $40. Another alternative is a cob: they smoke great and are about 5 bucks.

Of course, if you've found a pipe you've just got to have for 100 plus, then I guess you'll go for it. It just seems to me to be a lot of money to spend if you're just starting out and aren't sure this is something you want to pursue.

Just my .02, YMMV.

Whatever you do, don't smoke that flavored crap in a pipe you might one day care about. Someday, you'll outgrow that stuff and you'll regret it. Buy a cob to smoke that stuff.

Doc.

I will say this for a good pipe tobacco. Try the Da Vinci which is made by Dan Tobacco's and has a CAO sticker on on. I can't say its really sweet, but this one should do the trick for you. As for spending $100+ on a pipe. Well, you don't need to do that whatsoever. Plenty of nice pipes in the $30 to $100 range. You have Savanelli, Peterson, and even Nording pipes that hit this range and all of them are really nice to have in a collection. A good pipe will make any good tobacco worth a little more just so you know. You can get one hell of a nice Meerschaum pipe for this price range. I'd recommend that over a Cob pipe. any day of the week.

Just remember pipes isn't like any other tobacco product and it also takes more patience and skill. But its well worth the time once you get used to it. I hit my 10th anniversary this month in cigar smoking and pipes. :D

PS: As an after thought, I would avoid the flavored pipe tobacco's like Vanilla and Chocolate. Because you do not want to be mixing that tobacco in a good pipe with other quality pipe tobacco's.

I have only had a couple flavored tobaccos that I have liked. Ashton makes some interesting ones like Rainy Day (with a hint of orange and bourbon) and Frenchy's Vanilla ice. I would smoke these in a cob or meer though so the flavors do not absorb into the pipe.

As for under $100 pipes, I have to give my nod to Stanwell. I now have 7 Stannies (ranging from $65-$100 each). All of them are excellent smokers!

Go to your local tobaccanist and get a basket pipe. These are el cheapos that most shops will have. Ask to sample some of their aromatic tobacco. Most shops will let you sample for free. Once you find what you like, get a moderately priced pipe, like a Savinelli, or a Peterson and dedicate that pipe to your aromatic tobacco.

Personally, I'll never smoke aromatic tobacco. English/Balkan only please!
