Okay I have 3 Western Digital Caliber Hygrometers, however they arent to good....in that the fact I have had to send 2 of them back twice now, and the 3rd one just crapped out. It has nothing to do with the batteries because I have changed them (This is all in a 8month time frame max) and the LCD craps out

This is the one I have: http://www.bargainhumidors.com/bh/itemdeta...SKU=ACC-CALIBER

Any suggestions for a better one, at a somewhat decent price. Just seems nuts they keep on crapping out.

I've got some Csonka's that I found on Cbid that have been working well. But, my Western Digitals are working well also. I guess "YMMV" is the best answer. :D

Try looking into this one. I've had one for a while now and it hasn't given me any problems. It's more expenisve, but worth the investment.

2 Western Digitals here, both work fine.

I use the radio shack ones....work great....on is 1% off the other is spot on....picked them up for $10 each.

I know others use the radio shack wireless long range ones so you don't need to open the humidor as much to check...but if your getting a cigar out why not check then...:)

Radio shack is the way to go

The Radio Shack one is great. Have had it for a bit now and it has worked perfect. 20 bucks

I also have two of the Radio Shack hygrometers, they work great.
Keep an eye out on the Radio Shack website for %50 discount coupons on these.
I bought one of them for $10.00 afew months ago.

I concur. Had the $20 which is right on. Just got the $49.95 long-range remote for Christmas and must say the alarm option is comforting since the iglodor is in the basement and the monitor is upstairs in plain view.

I'm in the market for one myself and took a closer look at Radio Shack's $20 hygro. The only thing that keeps me is the huge +/-5% tolerance.

Who has knowledge of the inner workings of a digital hygro and can comment on this tolerance? I would be interested to hear if, per given individual instrument, the tolerance is always the same. Or whether, on one unit, the tolerance is indeed that big, depending on whatever. Any takers?

No matter the brand you are going to have some that are high or low. While mine is right on you should do the salt test to check any brand. Then just adjust the math in your head if it is off or return it for exchange.

Lot of guys here use the radio shack brand cause it has been determined to be more accurate than some other hygrometers especially for the price.

I might add that if it high or low by a certain amount it will read that amount all the time.
It doesn't swing up and down 5%.

That is the important part! I don't mean to doubt you but how do you know this? Is this your opinion or do you have proof and which?

Keep your powder dry ;)

This is my opinion by examining the meter which stays the same number for days/weeks on end. It may go down while the box is open but goes right back to the same number after the box is stabalized. I also use beads which are "programmed" for 65%. My My remote has read 66% for weeks.

Others may jump in to confirm it but my opinion is that the +/-5% means that the setting may vary by +-5%. the best I have seen is +/-3% in production and +/-1% in many research grade devices.

I don't think keeping cigars is rocket science and the product changes little if the % is not maintained at 65% or right at 70%. Now smoking a ciagr at 80% or 50% is a different story.

If you like you can buy 2 and salt test both and use both but I think it is overkill.

Good advice. Actually, I'll buy three, test them all and return the two most-off :whistling:

(leaves for the nearest Radio Shack)
