I would not recommend playing a refurbished ball. What are you playing now? I know more than a few people who play the refurbished Pro V1 just to say that's what they play. My recommendation is to just wait for a sale at your local sports store. Now (Winter) is a good time of the year to pick up a few dozen balls. I just picked up a couple dozen Taylor Made Tour Performance for less than $20/dozen. When you find a good deal stock up?

I will play a "recycled" ball when I am having a bad round (after I have lost 2 balls). They are pretty cheap, and I don't care if I lose them or not. The balls I regularly play aren't real expensive (Bridgestone E6), but I would rather lose a ball that is "recycled" than a brand new ball.

If I am playing in a tournament or something like that, I will never use a "recycled" ball.
