2005 God of Fire Double Robusto by Carlito
Size: Double Robusto 5.75 x 52
Wrapper: Cameroon
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic
Production: 10,000 Total Units
Smoke Time: 1 hour 35 minutes
Cutter: Xitar Punch (just kidding)
Torch: Dunhill (just kidding again)
I felt as I was reviewing this cigar that I was back in English class and my teacher was asking us to describe eating an orange without using comparisons, nearly impossible to say the least. Fortunately this is not one of those times. That being said I only hope I do this wonderful cigar justice.
I was one of the fortunate ones that volunteered in a thread Cira ran for mandatory review. Thanks Cira for the opportunity!
Pre-light and First Third:
This cigar was a solidly-built stick with beautiful construction and a nice oily finish with light veining.
The filler was nice and open in the foot and felt consistently the same the entire length. I used my cheap $1.50 punch to start. There was a nice easy draw with a slight residual sweetness left on the lips. I applied the flame from my 99 cent Bic® lighter and was rewarded with lots of smoke with some highly spiced essence of cedar, apple and citrus. After it settled dark coffee overtones began to emerge with the spiciness continuing develop.
Second and Concluding Thirds:
The ash was a nice light mottled grey and was evidence of a very consistent and even burn. It was a bit chilly for Southern California standards but there was fresh moisture in the air from an earlier rain so the cigar performed beautifully and unswerving with no hint of dryness.
A solid amount of smoke was in attendance during the entire experience as no binding was evident throughout. There was no hint of harshness as the flavor shifted to a nice dark chocolate with a hint of fresh grass after a new rain.
The ash fell off in the second third leaving a nice conical cherry.
With the final third coming into play I was beginning to feel the chill from sitting outside in my hooded sweatshirt but I felt I could tough it out to the very end and I was not disappointed. (This is my Turk10mm MySpace shot!)
The finish was loaded with heavy cedar zest and peppery nuances. I took it down to the nub and reluctantly set it aside.
I did have an interesting after taste that lingered as I was beginning to type this and the only thing I can describe it as is antiseptic. I am at a loss for this as I have never experienced it before.
In summary, I felt this cigar performed beautifully and dependably. It was satisfying to the point were I was left with just a hint of wanting more. All in all a wonderful smoke and I would recommend it to anyone.
